60 Day Window

I am still doing research for an Alaskan Cruise in 2005 and have narrowed down the date ranges a little bit, but would like some more info from those that have been or are in the know.

Basically, I am looking at a 60 day window that includes the last 2 weeks of July, all of August, and the first 2 weeks of September.

My interests are going to be whale watching, bears, eagles, and other wildlife. I'm from Chicago so I don't really care how cold it gets, but I would prefer to maximize my chances of not getting rained on. Also, price is way down the list of priorities so while I realize that Septemeber is somewhat cheaper, I wouldn't choose it for that reason. I also want to do the Mount Roberts Tramway and possibly the White Pass train trip so visibility would be an issue.

Any thoughts on the weeks during this period?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We did the landtour and cruise the latter half of July into the first week of August last year, weather was incredible (it was in the 90's in Fairbanks, sunnny in Keitcehn) Unforuately you just never know, however it was too foggy to get to do the Summit flight to Denali and the dog sledding, which we booked in Skagway and Juneau( did Helicopter glacier hike instead) However, we were told that the week before us, it had actually snowed in the Park.

You might want to consider that you are headed to the Land of the Midnight Sun! June 21st is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and from then on the days get shorter. The early part of July you will find that the sunset is quite late in the evening i.e. 10 ish by early September that has moved to probably around 8 ish How late it stays light is dependant on the weather - on a sunny day dusk will often last till 11pm in early July.
