Valor 11-4-07 Does anyone know what happened?

Off the Valor today had a great time, only one concern, why bother having a dress code if you don't enforce it.

To the question, while boarding the ship in St. Martin at about 5:00 we were at the gangway checkpoint when a young couple was storming off the ship with their luggage. The ship's officer at the checkpoint was attempting to have them swipe the sign and sail cards before leaving, the woman couldn't be bothered only saying they had taken care of it with the purser, I heard the young man say "this was the worst vacation ever" they were in 9210, I was wondering if anyone knew what happened and if things were so bad why they waited to get off in St. Martin.

I don't know about the Valor but your opening struck a cord with me.. When my dh and I were on the Conquest in September,I had told him no jeans or shorts in the dining room.. One night a couple was walking to their table in front of us, they both had on blue jean shorts.. My dh was like HEY, you said I couldn't do that.. I said it is not my fault I can read and you still can't wear shorts in the dining room.. It is my understanding the jean issue is in the air but it is pretty clear about shorts.. So I echo your question, what good is a dress code?

They probably maxed out their credit card and Carnival wanted them to pay some on their bill or stop spending. I wonder how they got home if that it the case?

I'm sure we'll all find out soon enough we they stumble onto this site or find the bruise site.

I find the Dress code being enforced varies from week to week.

I have had sailing where it was strictly enforced then the next week anything goes.

My Valor cruise, the Maidre'd was turning people away left & right, even on the first evening when the code is supposed to be relaxed.

Liberty, the people were all dressed up nicely in gowns & suits, everyone was standing around taking about how nice it was to see everyone really into the formal evening. Conquest anything goes, my sailing on the Destiny, had the most white or brightly colored suits i have ever seen (no not uniforms)

I was on the Valor 3 weeks ago, and I was amazed at how well the dress code was followed. I saw ONE person in jeans on formal night, but other than that...

As for the passengers getting off in St Martin, I would have no idea. I did notice on our cruise several people in the hallway leaving their rooms with luggage in St Martin. Nobody seemed overly upset though...

Could be those in shorts had their luggage lost. Who knows since we don't know those people or their situation. But as for the jeans, they have always been allowed. Our group have been wearing them on non formal nights for the last 10 years.

That maybe something had gone wrong at home???? Someone had died or was severly injured or sick? Since you will never know, maybe you shouldn't speculate.

This is exactly why I cant believe people get so bent out of shape over the dress code. Maybe there luggage was lost, or maybe their house burnt down the week they were leaving. Would you ridicule those people? If we ever lose our luggage on a cruise and im in shorts in the dining room, I swear im going to wear a sign that says we lost our luggage and mind your own business. I cant believe while on vacation anyone would even notice such a thing. By the way we dress up for dinner.

I bet they obviously did something on the ship, the officers on the ship didn't like what they did, and they probably had a choice and they chose to get off the ship.

I wonder if they broke something, damaged something, or stole something, because it takes a lot to get kicked off the ship.

Remember the incidents on the Liberty back in August and nobody on that group was kicked off.

You can wear anything you want on formal night as long as you don't go into the dining room. Since I always have late dinner, I usually walk around the ship on formal night in my shorts and t-shirt looking at everyone dressed up for early seating. When it gets towards my late seating, I will get dressed formally and go to dinner. After dinner, I change back into my shorts and t-shirt to go to the shows and casino. There's nothing that says you have to stay dressed up after dinner.

I think she was talking about what she saw in the dining room.

Meant to say in the dining room...one person in jeans in the dining room on formal night. And, I was walking around before dinner, and everybody I saw was dressed up. And they stayed that way after dinner too! I was impressed!

I have always worn jeans the first night, and Debark day on a cruise. I fly down from NJ, and back. I would never wear them on a formal night, in the dinning room. I wore shorts the whole cruise on the Celebration once, it was and August cruise but I diden't use the dinning room the whole cruise.

Geez, I'm sorry, I didn't mean this to turn into a dress code flaming post, just wondered if anyone knew what happened to the couple.

well you did start the thread off by saying ""why bother having a dress code if you don't enforce it"" That usually does it.

But i don't see this thread being a flaming thread.
