Is What they say about RCI true?

Well only when we sleep in until noon - and we let our Steward know ahead of time :D ;)

Wimp, you have to stay up until 2 am and then get up at 6 or 7 to make excursions. Partying only on the nights before sea days isn't fair. Remember you can sleep when you get home.:D

We have never been on a Carnival cruise but with 57 RCI cruises, that must say something for RCI.

We have been on 2 other cruise lines but RCI is now the only line we cruise. Love the perks they give us.

Go have a great time and enjoy the ship for all she is worth.

You are SO right, Sue! Way to go!

(thank goodness there are LOTS of sea days on my 46 day cruise on the Mariner! Time for late night partying AND sleeping in, in between early days and long nights in port! ;))

I'm not usually in bed before 4am. :D If Royal Caribbean ships were full of boring snobs that didn't know how to have a good time then they definitely would not be my favorite cruise line. As you can see from my siggy I kinda like RCI. :p Ignore the Carnival cheerleaders.

 Ok, been on only Carnival have our first RCI cruise coming up next May. We were looking for a change and hopefully a step up. But reading the boards and I still do go to the Carnival threads I read a lot of comments on the RCI crowd. They make it sound like we will be on ship with a bunch of boring snobby people that roll up the carpets and go to bed at 11. I find this hard to believe so tell me how much fun you are. :D

Hi Kidless, I have only sailed RCCL, my parents have sailed them all. Not snobby at all, just not a "get wasted 24/7" crowd. We both agree RCCL is the cruiseline for us. Last cruise was 12/10/06, large group, ship was rockin' until all hours. I think the earliest I went to bed was 2am, and that was leaving bunches out to party some more.

Enjoy your trip, I'm sure you will love RCCL.

Okay Carol, just rub it in that you're going to be on a 46 NIGHT cruise and the rest of us are going to be here holding down the fort!!!!!!!:D

Well the "change of day" carpets are rolled up right after midnight  What a rude awakening when we leave the casino...;) ;)

That was what I was going to say they "others" were probably referring to. I've heard that it confuses a lot of people.:D

Just becuase the RCI cruises are more $ right away we are all snobs and boring. I think becuase Carnival is less expensive, it attracks more of a wilder, more party animal type of crowd. To each his own, but I can tell you, I have had many late nights and have had many side busting laughs with allot of different people we didnt even know. I am sure there is a good percentage of people who "hit the hay early", but that doesnt make them snobby. I look at it like...maybe they have an early excursion, or maybe they were up late last night. I like RCI allot and I am sure you will too and Im willing to bet that you will think differently on the Snob part too....;)

What itinerary is 46 days (or what B2B combo)? I want to do that!

As a charter member of Snobs Networking On The Ships (S.N.O.T.S.)...

We were on the Enchantment last month, and we didn't encounter any snobs. None on our Conquest cruise last year either. So, since we really want to cruise with snobs, we are going to try HAL next. If that doesn't work, we will move on to Cunard or Crystal. :p

I'm kidding, of course. We really just want to try different lines and ships.

Kidless, I didn't run into any snobs on our RCCL cruise... same type of people I ran into on Carnival were on there... there really was no difference in the people (although on the SOS there was one group that was less than desirable, you can't blame an entire cruise line for that though :p) And we stayed up until 3-5am each night, no rolling up the carpets!! I didn't prefer the smaller RCCL ship much at all, but look forward to trying one of the larger ships. The pricing on the 2 lines is similar, the demographics is similar, and I think you will find more similarities than differences for the most part. Good luck and have fun!!

Mariner of the Seas repo cruise from Port Canaveral to LAX. It's a B2B2B.

I'm striking out in my search. Absolutely NOTHING for Mariner repo. either out of Port Canaveral or Los Angeles for ANY DATE (2008 OR 2009). Have they done something to the Mariner? What am I doing wrong? Seems like it should show NO HITS when I ask for Mariner, but I get a bunch of ships and a bunch of ports. I'll call RCCL, but maybe someone here can enlighten me as to why it would not come up in a search. I might be missing some good itineraries because I'm not searching right. (I'm doing the search from RCCL website.) Thanks.

Put in January to March 2009 and Mariner of the Seas and it brings up all 3 legs of the repo. It's not listed as a repo cruise (it should be). They are listed as South America cruises.

Kidless,

I have to agree with Lucy; we didn't find much difference in the people or prices between the two lines. We prefer RCCL because, in our experience, they have more activities (or at least better planned), and better itineraries, than Carnival. At the price point, we feel like overall we get a better deal on RCCL. Have fun.

I've been on both lines but I prefer RCCL. When cruising the Caribbean, I prefer the Caribbean crew aboard RCCL. They are alot of fun. Also, I enjoy the activities that RCCL offers. That being said, I'm cruising on Carnival next summer to the Baltics. Carnival offered a great itinerary on a brand new ship for about $800 per person cheaper that the rate that I was quoted by RCCL.

Diane, you and Dave will love both the Mariner and Sovereign. By the way, I just figured out tonight that this was you. I had forgot your screen name. I didn't steer you guys wrong back in 2000 and I'm telling you that you will love it. I too was ready for a change back in 04. My last few cruises with Carnival left a lot to be desired. After 16 cruises with them I was ready for a change and in March of 04 we saw the Navigator docked next to us in San Juan. I loved everything I saw about that ship. Came home and booked it for December of that year. I have not looked back.

There is always a lot of banter that goes on between this board and the Carnival board. Most of it is good fun. Sometimes it gets a little serious. They call us snobs and we call them Carnivores!!!!!!:D No harm meant by it.

The RCI ships go late into the night. Something for everyone to do. I have photos of the Sovereign in my link below. She is great ship for the quick cruises. The JS cabins are a nice size. Coco Cay is a great stop for a beach day. Any other questions, just let me know.:)
