jmaze Posted November 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2007 We have booked our excursions thru Carnival. Do we tip the guide or driver the same as we would if it was a private excursion? There will be 3 of us. Thanks.
gumballz Posted November 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2007 We tip our guide whether it's with the ship or through a private company. Usually when we book privately we get more personalized service, so I do tend to tip higher on those.....but it all depends on the person and service. :)
Sheffie Posted November 17, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2007 We also tip if we go on a private excursion or on a ship's excursion. One thing to remember is that the ship's excursion people get only a percentage of what you pay for the excursion. Have a great cruise!
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 27, 2007 Yes, it's nice to give a tip to the drivers and to the tour guide. I base my tips on the quality of the tour, the tour guide and the bus driver. I won't tip as much on a group tour as I would on a private tour recognizing that we are not getting the one on one attention of a private tour and that there are so many others with us on the tour who are likely to give a tip as well. My experience is that about half the people tip. Sometimes a little more on some group tours and sometimes a little less. Keith
cruise_lover Posted November 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2007 We book all our tours through the cruiselines and at the end of every excursion the tour guide always asks everyone to chip in a dollar or two for the bus driver. We make our decision based on the quality of service we received.
saltmom1 Posted December 12, 2007 #6 Share Posted December 12, 2007 We book all our tours through the cruiselines and at the end of every excursion the tour guide always asks everyone to chip in a dollar or two for the bus driver. We make our decision based on the quality of service we received. I read on shore excursion FAQs on the CCL website that $1 per person for 1/2 day excursions and $2 per person for full day excursions is the recommended amount. Sounded reasonable to me. cruiserbryce Posted December 13, 2007 #7 Share Posted December 13, 2007 depends on the excursion and the guide...we have had guides that just kind of go through the motions, but we have also had some great guides...if the guide adds a lot to the experience, is personable and really makes it nice we will happily tip a few dollars...
