NCL Single Supplement

Jim, I'm not sure if you have cruised solo before but 200% isn't unusual. I've been on two cruises, going on my third in two weeks and have my fourth booked and all were at 200% because of the dreaded single supplement. I've read on these boards about single supplements that are lower and sometimes if you book close to the cruise date you can get such a good deal that the 200% isn't as bad. There are current posts on this board about Carny prices going up and it appears all cruise lines have now added a surcharge for fuel ($5 per person per day) so I don't hold a lot of hope that single supplements are going to drop.

Hey Everybody,

If singles can be flexible in regards to travel dates & destinations, there are deals to be had out there. I found 2 sailings on NCL on these boards, one that was no single supplement and the other one that seemed to be a price mistake, so the 100% additional supplement wasn't huge. If you're still interested, keep checking the thread titled

"CRUISE LINE Single Supplement Bargains -- Post Here":

In addition Royal Caribbean offered some very low single supplements for many sailings in the fall and early winter that were posted in this thread.

The December TA will be my return to NCL after almost 7 years, so, we'll see first hand how the 'solo' thing works out. However, there are an unusually large number of singles on the Roll Call boards, due to the 0% additional supplement that was offered.

CruiseCritic Message Boards have come to the rescue for me in solo planning.

Happy Sailing :)

Yes, plus they don't hit soft 17. Most important NCL doesn't have those hideous Continious Shuffling Machines where the cards are thrown back into the eight decks after each hand.

Other points:

- the NCL casino staff seem friendlier

- their comps and drinks seem easier to obtain:D

- late evening sandwiches and other snacks are provided (not that I need this on a cruise ship but it is a nice touch)........Jim H.

I have always found Carnival and HAL to have a reasonable single supplement of 150% - sometimes less.

I have a group of friends that have met on various cruises - we are all single/solo, and despite the fact that we are friends do enjoy having a cabin to ourselves. We appreciate the fact that Carnival offers a 1A guarantee at the 150% rate - to date none of us have actually had a 1A, and have been blessed with cabins in the 4, 5, and 6 category range.

In 2009 - the three of us are actually planning on sharing a cabin for a Med cruise due to the high cost. Would love to try NCL or Celebrity but we find the cost prohibitive. Wish other lines would listen. Cheers

Perhaps since they keep building more and larger ships, they will eventually have to account for the solo traveler, which is a growing demographic! (At least we can hope....)

For the most part I've given up. I've taken 3 cruises and have two more booked, all were/are at 200%. Perhaps it is the time of the year I want to travel, where I want to go (specifically the Alaska cruise which I understand run higher) or my unwillingness to take a cabin without at least an o/v but I haven't found any cruises at less than 200%. Whether it is right or not, I just now accept that 200% is the cost of cruising. Could I find less expensive vacations? Sure but at this stage, money, while always a consideration, isn't the biggest one. So, why do I track this thread? Because if there is a chance to save money, I'm going for it! LOL It really would be lovely if, even once, I could find a cruise I want at less than 200%. That would be the best "upgrade" I could get!

Have a great weekend!

For my past couple of cruises with Royal Caribbean I've been paying a single supplement of about 58% of the pp price for inside cabins. Carnival, Princess and NCL has always been 100% of the pp price as the supplement.
