Experiences with Hotwire

We are flying into Newark on Jan 15 for our HAL cruise on Noordam on the 16.

I have asked and received some recommendations for hotels near the airport and I was thinking about booking the Marriot at the airport which will cost about $235 inc taxes.

I looked at Hotwire and they are offering an un-named 3.5 star hotel for about $175 inc taxes. I have never used Hotwire before. Does anyone recommend taking this deal or should I play safe and pay the extra $60.

What are your experiences with Hotwire.

Also I read a fair bit about bidding on Priceline on these boards. This is not well known in the UK. Is this worth considering?

Thanks

The hotels listed below are for 3.5 star hotels in Newark from betterbidding.com

See if you can match up the amenities with hotels.

To answer your question, yes I have used Hotwire and have had success with research before booking.

I have used hotwire a lot and love it. You do have to be a bit of a risk taker. If you really want a special hotel, forget it. If you just want a good deal on a bed for a night, it is great. I tend to use hotwire more than priceline (even though priceline tends to be a bit cheaper) because of the icons, I like to know if there is a pool, a shuttle or breakfast included.

Once they give me the name of the hotel I call and put in my requests for non-smoking and bed set up.

Good Luck!
