Request book with a South American setting

[Enjoying every moment]

I'm going on a South American cruise in April and would love to take a novel that has a South American setting. Cruise starts in Buenos Aires, continues around Cape Horn and along the Chilean coast.

Anything by Isabel Allende (daughter of the president of Chile assassinated in a CIA sponsored coup). Brilliant writer, both fiction and non-fiction

 

The Old Patagonia Express by Paul Theroux is fascinating.

 

Any of the many books on Peron (both of them)... I have my favorites but I am sure this is heavily influenced by my political leanings.

Since I like the mystery/thriller genre, I'm taking Amazonia by James Rollins with me in January when we sail from Rio - Santiago via Antarctica. I've already read The Hostage by W.E.B. Griffin (takes place in Buenos Aires) but I'm bringing it (on MP3) for DH. The follow-up is The Hunters taking place in Uruguay, which I'll also have on MP3 for us to listen to on the cruise.

Another vote for Isabelle Allende, or Gabriel Garcia *****. One Hundred Years of Solitude if you have not read it.

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia ***** (a wonderful book recently made into a less than stellar movie....)

Another vote for "The Hostage" WEB Griffen. Thick book will last almost the whole cruise. Fun and interesting. We gave our book to the steward at the end of the cruise because they have a crew library.
