Jewel of the Seas - December 15, 2007

This was our 2nd time on Jewel. Ship is very clean and everything still looks new. We really liked the new beds and linens, a definite upgrade. Our cabin attendant did his job...not a very friendly guy, room was always clean.

Dining:

Food and service were excellent, and there was no shortage of Lobster, our waiter kept asking if we wanted more!

Portofinos and Chops, both well worth the dining fee.

1st formal night we were invited to dine with the Capt, that was a special treat. We were treated to great service, food, and the very nice wine was always being refilled. The Capt is very charming and it was nice to hear his story.

Entertainment:

We didn't go to all the shows, the ones we did go to were not outstanding. For us, the entertainment variety was lacking this time around.

We enjoy late night, and the only venue is the disco, we've complained time and again about the amount of rap music played there, the majority of adults trying to enjoy a drink and music in that venue are forced to leave due to the amount of rap played. We spoke to one of the Cruise Director's assistants and she told us the playlist is directed by corporate. The DJ (Daniel) was very nice and did accomodate requests, but we heard from many of the 'regulars' at the disco, that they had to leave earlier than they wanted to because of the music.

Our first choice is still Voyager class, more entertainment variety is important to us, but itinerary dependent, the Radiance class is still a good choice for us.

How was debarkation, please? If you are Diamond, was there a Diamond lounge for departures and were you escorted off by the LA? Who is the captain? We have been fortunate to have dined with two different captains on two different ships. The two we have met were quite interesting.

We are Platinum and the debark lounge for Plat/Diamond was at the Vortex. Our group decided to eat breakfast late and sit in the DR as late as possible, that worked out, we were allowed to sit in the DR for all but 5 minutes at which time we walked out to the public area and then as soon as they started calling tag colors we got off the ship, the luggage was well organized and we went directly to the rent car shuttle area, that was a huge mess, no shuttle bus for nearly 45 minutes, and then the 'pushers/shovers' showed up the same time as the shuttle. Next time, I will just jump in a cab.

I can't spell the Captain's name, I will have to look at the signed pictures and menus and report back, he is 38, single, and very charming:)
