ALB0711 Posted September 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2004 I just made my final payment for B2B cruises on the Golden in December. I booked the cruise in August of 2003. My travel agent tells me that the price has gone up by $185 (for the total B2B booking, no per person) because of additional government taxes levied after I booked. Anybody else experience this? Do I have any recourse?
pyro Posted September 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2004 Ours went up, too, but only by about $24 (and that's for a cabin with 4 people). Something sounds fishy there. Our cruise is on the Grand in November, and I live in the same departure state if that makes a difference.
sue d. miller Posted September 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2004 Yes, that has happened before!!! No recourse if you want to cruise!!
Lynda90 Posted September 16, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2004 Princess has no control over the government taxes. Unfortunately, this has happened to other cruisers and there is really nothing you can do about it except pay for it. Wish there was a better answer for you, but there isn't. Toto2Kansas Posted September 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2004 They can't charge you a higher price for your cruise, but they CAN include tax increases if they happen before or even after final payment, in some cases.
ALB0711 Posted September 16, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted September 16, 2004 Thanks All, Looks like we'll have to make up the difference in the casino! (yeah right!!!)
hcs81m Posted September 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2004 How about the price going up after the cruise starts. On the recent Sept 5th Golden they sent us a note halway through the cruise that everyone was being asessed an additonal $2.50 in governmental taxes on their ship board accounts.
Rare oskidunker Posted September 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2004 Or would you still get an additional bill?
Toto2Kansas Posted September 16, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 16, 2004 Read above, TAXES are different then increasing your cruise fare. They CAN be accessed after your final payment and sometimes even charged to your shipboard account. This is perfectly legal. The only thing that you can not be charged more for is the initial cruise fare.
Rare oskidunker Posted May 22, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 22, 2005 I guess they could try
coiran Posted May 22, 2005 #11 Share Posted May 22, 2005 Everyone is right - but - why are you making your final payment for a December cruise this early - it shouldn't be due untilSept or Oct?? Ron
Richard Stein Posted May 22, 2005 #12 Share Posted May 22, 2005 It is more than 75 days out. You can still cancel and get your deposit money back. On my Star transatlantic they did not sell out had empty cabins and people were booking for $1000 per person less than I paid at the end. Goes both ways.
