Athens Hotels

Looking for recommendations for hotels for pre-cruise stay in Athens. Anyone have a favorite? We don't need luxury, interested in good, clean hotel located centrally for sightseeing.

Last year we stayed at the intercontinental ($100 a night on priceline) They have a shuttle that goes to the center of town.

 

SIL stayed on exec floor much more money, same room. Hotel is very clean and restaurants are excellent.

Hotel Attalos. Central, near the sights, but not in the Plaka, near a subway stop. Kind of plain, but good elevators, A/C. Requisite roof-top bar and restaurant with a view of the Acropolis. Stored our luggage during our pre-cruise swanning off to the islands.

We liked the Athens Cypria. Great location, clean, large room, modern bathroom, friendly and helpful front desk staff. Ask for a room on the 6th floor with a view of the Acropolis from your balcony.

Suggest you consider Priceline's name-your-own-price site. As mentioned previously, the Intercontinental has shown up there as a 5 star, and the Ledra Marriott as a 4 star. Both are quite nice and are on Syngrou Avenue, a couple of blocks apart.

We did a pre-cruise stay in Athens at the Adams Hotel. It was vry comfortable. All rooms have small balconies and we had a view of the Acropolis, a magical site at night with all the lights. We walked everywhere except to the Museum and we took the local bus there. Hope this helps.

My husband and I stayed at the AVA Hotel in the Plaka area. It is very conveniently located to walk to everything. It is at the end of the main pedestrian street in Plaka. It was very quiet. The rooms are large and very clean. They call them apartments as they have a kitchen area and a separate bedroom. From the balcony we could see the Acropolis to the right and Hadrian's Arch about a block away to the left. The staff is very knowledgeable and love to answer guests' questions.

Another vote for AVA Hotel. We were there in mid-September and second Twiga's comments.

We have stayed at the Royal Olympic Hotel twice - very good location and nice rooms, reasonably priced.

We stayed at the Hotel Grande Bretagne right near the Plaka - outstanding hotel with amazing view of the Acropolis at night.

We also enjoyed the 5* Hotel Grande Bretangne and found it to be close to perfect. The Oceania pre-cruise group was also there and all seemed to love the hotel and the location.:)

Make it three in a row for the Grande Bretagne. Fantastic hotel and location. Have stayed there both times we visited Athens.
