Guernsey & Dublin Ports Questions?

Two of the ports we will be visiting on our cruise will be Guernsey (St Peter Port) and Dublin. We would like to tour both of these ports (cities) on our own. Can someone tell me where the ships dock (Princess) in relation to the city?

In Guernsey, can one walk from the ship to visit the sites?

In Dublin, we would like to take the Hop-on, Hop-off Tourist Bus. About how far is it to connect with this service?

Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Guernsey is a tender port, but the tender dock is the main pier in St Peter Port, right across the road from the town.

There are quite a few threads in this forum about what to do in Guernsey, so I'd recommend a search to get the accumulated wisdom.

Kevin - just so you know, Guernsey is problematic. The two cruises prior to ours, as well as ours, couldn't make port due to conditions.

We grabbed the Princess shuttle - it was about 30 minutes into town and then the HOHO bus was right around the corner, litereally. We just had to cross one street and we were there. It was a great way to familiarize yourself with the city and get to all the popular sites.

We were on this exact same cruise cruise in 2007. Don't know about Guernsey, since we had to skip that port due to weather. But for Dublin, you will need Euros. ATM machines are everywhere. For the shuttle from Port to Town, Princess will sell you vouchers on the ship, charged to your account, $5 pp each way.

Thanks for the information. Did you do the HOHO bus in Dublin....if so do you have any advice about touring that city?

Hi,:)

You can go to viator.com and find out information about the HO/HO bus in Dublin and its different stops. You can also purchase your tickets on the net and print them out. We did that for Rome's bus last year and it worked out fine.

You can also check Viator for any other city you may be visiting for their HO/HO bus if they have one.

Enjoy your cruise,

happytotravel:)

"Guernsey" and 'city' are not two words that go together - Guernsey is an island of approx 25 sq miles - the capital is a charming town called St Peter Port - old stone houses and cobbled streets - quite hilly. The currency is Sterling but, beware the Channel Islands have their own notes, and coins, which are not accepted anywhere else so make sure you get rid of all CI coins/notes before you leave.

If you search this thread you will find many suggestions of what to do - it is very charming - rather like England was in the 1950's - and pretty.
