Will need to make calls back to the states while in port from these 3 islands to a cell phone number.

Internet will not be an option in this matter. Where is the cheapest &easiest place to do this? Are there places that sell phone cards on the islands that will work? Help please.

The cheapest way is payphone and international calling card!

When you get to the foreign port, there will be places to purchase the calling card. Don't buy one here in the states, as they are for calling OUT of the country! You want one that calls FROM the foriegn port TO the U.S.!

The purser on the ship can tell you exactly where to go to get the card and find a payphone--they're usually very near to the dock!

There are 3 options available in any port, two of which are good, and the third is horrible.

There should be an information desk on the pier when you get off of the ship.

Ask if there is a phone room or call center nearby. Many islands have these, and they are very economical, only charging you for the minutes that you use.

Next best is to purchase a calling card for use on THAT island. The information desk should be able to tell you where you can purchase them. These WILL NOT work on other islands, regardless of what the vendor may claim. Just buy one for $5 or $10 and you should be fine.

Many ports now have phones on the docks that look similar to pay phones, but use credit cards. DO NOT USE THEM. You won't find out until you get your bill in the mail that you paid anywhere from $5 to $8 PER MINUTE by using them.

Have a great cruise!

Thank you both for the help. Jarhead are you a Marine? Marine B.F is why Daughter's has to call. (Another dumb ?)With the calling cards purchased on the island, can she call his cell phone from a pay phone without him getting stuck with roaming charges?

You can ask any of your restaurant servers or room stewards where THEY buy their phone cards and where the quietest public phones are at every port. They are very knowledgeable and helpful as they all use time at the ports for calling home.

DON'T use any phone cards bought here in the states. They will not work on the islands.

Have a great cruise!
