Tendering from boat

You don't mention your ports but I think it's pretty universal that the tenders just keep running all day. The frequency may vary during the day but you'll usually know that ahead of time. If it's not a busy time, you may have to sit on the tender for a while until there are enough people on board but it's usually no big deal. The first tenders of the day are usually crowded (people with early excursions booked on board get first crack at those) and at the end of the day, you'll find a line of people waiting to board. But, in the middle of the day it's pretty easy to get back.

Usually, tender tickets are no longer needed after about the first 90 minutes - 2 hours. As Patty says, ship's excursions, Elite and full suite passengers have priority on the first tenders leaving the ship. Returning, there is no priority other than first come, first served.

If you want to tender into port and literally turn around and go back on the same tender, you can do that as long as there aren't any lines. :) It all depends on the line waiting to return to the ship. When you get off and wander around, you would just get into the tender embarkation line. It's not a biggie.

Depending on where you port sometimes private tenders are used as well as the ships tenders. You are not charged to use the private tenders, it just helps Princess speed things up in getting people ashore or back to the ship. When are going back to the ship and if there are other ships in port tendering be sure you get in line for your ship's tenders. In other words, when you get off the tender in the port take a look around so you can find the tender boarding spot to return to the ship. Tenders will come and go from the same place on the dock all day long. Princess will have small signs up on pole like you might find at a convention directing you to the loading area.
