3 moms and our mid-20s daughters are considering a 4-day cruise on Majesty in August. My only cruise was on NOS three years ago (wonderful!) Please tell me the good and bad of Majesty. We're looking for relaxation - some good drinks by the pool, nothing too wild:)

Hey there, Surgie. We did a 4-night on Majesty back in the summer. When we came back, we started this thread. Check it out. After that, if you have specific questions I'll try to remember. I'm sure others will join us soon.

Among so many others, MattinFll has cruised Majesty a LOT. He's a great source of info.

Surgie- this ship is perfect for moms and daughters! It doesn't have the ice rink like on the voyager ship, unless you are just dying to skate, you won't miss it. It doesn't have the big mall in the center, but, I don't go on a cruise to be at the mall.

There are plenty of places to sit and people watch. Plenty of bars and plenty of pool loungers! As you can see in my signature my Majesty cruise was my favorite, mostly because I had my family with me, but I just like the smaller ships better than the big voyager ship...JMHO.

Ya'll have a great cruise and give us the full report when you get back!

Last April my two sister's and sister in law and I did a three day on the Majesty for my 40th b-day. We had a great time. We spent a lot of time at the piano bar in the evening. There were a lot of groups of females celebrating birthdays! There was a mix of people on the ship, some couples, some girl groups, some single, some married, but everyone seemed to be having a great time, and I didn't notice anyone getting out of hand!!

You were spoiled by your first cruise. Do yourself a favor and do not book this old ship. You will be disappointed. The refurb was a joke. I am pro RCCL but there are many better options for a 4 or 5 day. Try the Enchantment, or Radiance class ships if you are looking for a less expensive cruise. If you want the wow factor to extend beyond your first cruise at reasonable prices then book the Freedom or Liberty this summer in June or first part of July.

It cracks me up when people say they don't book the ship for the ammenities, yeah well guess what, there is always a chance you won't hit any ports due to circumstance. There are a lot of pumpers on here for the older ships like Majesty and Sovereign, they went on the cruise had a what they felt was good time (not great) and because of this choice they feel obligated to tell the world it was the cats meow. I on the other hand do not lead people a stray. I have been on several older ships on many lines because it was a so called good deal. Unfortunately I am spoiled much like yourself and I wound up thinking what in the h e l l did I do that for. Moral of the story, spend your hard earned dollars on the "wow" factor. If your dates can be flexible you will find a price to your liking. The ice rink show, promenade, flowrider can not be topped. You can thank me later.

I went from Voyager class to Vision on my last cruise and had a ball!! Everybody responds to different size ships differently. I actually preferred the smaller ship in a number of ways. Bear in mind, however, that there is likely to be somewhat more motion on a smaller ship.

I am planning a solo (or maybe w/DD) 3-day on Majesty in October as a fast getaway. I will tell you this, you will have a fabulous piano player in the Schooner. Patrice from Enchantment said he was moving to Majesty for his next contract which would be in May.

I think Majesty is PERFECT for what you're looking for...( And disregard the person who made reference to that "old ship"...It feels like an almost new ship)...I sailed on both the Majesty and Enchantment in Jan., and the Majesty was definitely my pick of the two, ( although I may be in the minority on that, as Enchantment has a very devoted following)...The only validity I see in the one person's negative remarks, is the fact that it is a smaller ship...To me, it seemed perfect, and not too small, but if you really like a larger ship, then you might consider that...Otherwise, I say go with Majesty...As you can see, I'm going back on her later this year!! :D

Rolloman, I would defend everyone's right to opinions here on CC as much as anyone. I was counting on you to join in and hit Majesty pretty hard as you normally do. Although I didn't see Majesty as you do, I can see where you're coming from on several items I've heard you mention in the past. Beauty-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder thing I guess. What I do find offensive is that in stating your position you seem bent on insulting others who just can't seem to have as sophisticated a vision about ships as you do. I'd be a lot quicker to respect your view if you could just tell us what you think and not have to slap others around so much.

You have legitimate thoughts. Just let them speak for themselves.

We sailed Majesty in Nov after sailing Freedom in APril..... there is no comparison. That said we loved the small ship feeling on Majesty. As others have said plenty of spaces to sit and relax, the food was good. All dif. options for eating. We thought it was beautiful after the refurb. For a 4 day and the price it is perfect. The cabins are small but who spends time in them anyway..... we booked again for Nov. 08.

I respect this person's point of view, but my experiences on Majesty - both pre and past refurb - have been great. I think the refurb was an excellent effort in revitalizing the ship.

It really all depends on your expectations and interests. I don't sail her expecting the wow factor of larger, newer ships; I sail her when I need a quick, easy getaway to somewhere warm. I'm perfectly happy on board, and visiting Nassau or Coco Cay makes the time that much better.

Bottom line, for me, I do not need an ice rink show, promenade, or flowrider to enjoy my 3-4 day cruise. Other people are different and value those things more. I would read the opinions here and find a middle ground based on what matters most to you.

No offense intended. Just trying to drive a point home that others usually attack me on. I also agree with Gmoney, the ship is good for us Floridians or someone who happens to be in the area for a quick Bahamas trip. I just want to help the people who save and save, pay more to fly to Florida then choose this ship. Too many options out there and again there is no guarantee you will even step foot on land, with that thought, there better be a plan B and that of course would be the ship as the destination.

Someone above was talking about the piano bar, I believe they did away with that and added a Boleros.

I'm one of those who has to fly 1000's of miles to sail Majesty!! :D I've come to the conclusion that ( at least as far the Caribbean is concerned), all I really want to do is sun, read, sleep, eat, and have a little fun at night...I'm not that interested in specific ports, not interested in water sports, or sports in general, i.e flowrider, ice rink, rock climbing wall, etc...So for me, I'd rather have 2-3 shorter cruises year on a more affordable boat, and than 1 longer one on a more expensive boat, whose amenities, ( which accounts for some of the extra expense), I'm not going to use...I realize that the larger ships are very appealing to a LOT of people, and I'll probably end up doing on at some point...But, I don't think I'm completely in the minority when it comes to smaller ships/short trips...Plus, I have a short attention span, and I don't care where I am, or what I'm doing...More than 5 days anywhere, and I'm done.

We tried the Majesty last year because we had not been on her. I'm always up for trying a new ship. We have also been on the Explorer and have seen what that class has to offer. I do LOVE the Voyager class and will be going again in October but that is not what's making my trip. The Radiance was also a great ship as was the Enchantment. You should not pick a ship by what other people think. You really can't go wrong what ever ship and itinerary you chose. You will be in good company with friends and family and that's all that counts! Would I go on the Majesty again? Probably not as I have too many other ships to check out and I am partial to the BIG ships. Now don't forget, I'm not saying I didn't have a good time on the Majesty, I just like em' BIG.

I try to keep up with the Majesty threads since I have never cruised on RCCL before. My only cruise experience was the Grand Princess. A LOT of posts on here so far, good or bad, have stressed the "small" ship concept. I was sick on the Grand Princess. Just how much "small ship" feel am I going to experience? We three girls don't need flow riders, malls, or ice skating to have a good time, but I also don't want to be sick for 4 days  . We are staying on Deck 6? Can anyone explain what that deck is like? It appears to be involved somehow with the Centrum area of the ship.

My wife and just returned from the Majesty 2 weeks ago and had a fabulos time. We have been on several Voyager Class, Freedom Class and Radiance Class ships. We both felt that the Majesty was just as nice as the larger ships. We would actually cruise on Majesty agin before another Radiance Class. As for the panio bar, it is still there and going strong every night. Back on topic. I felt that RCCL added the big ship feel to one of their smaller ships. This is an amenity that I was not expecting with my past two cruises being on Freedom and Liberty. The only thing that I feel the cruise was short on was time. When RCCL puts such lagre ship activites in a small ship on a short iteneralry, you do feel a little pressed for time. But the thing is we would go back in a heart beat. The ship was just as nice as any other ship we have been on. The staff, entertainment, activities, food and anything else you could try to compare were second to none. In short, if money or time are a restrant, don't hesitate to go on Majesty. You will have just as much fun and satisfaction as any other RCCL ship just with less days and money from the wallet.

If you're prone to seasickness, it doesn't matter whether you're on the Majesty or the GP; you probably really need to seek a medical solution.

I was on Majesty pre-refurbish and while I thought the carpet was super tacky, I loved this ship and can't wait to see her all done up this May.

She is a great ship and, like others mentioned, I am not into the "extra" ammenities offered on other ships so Majesty is perfect. We're driving more than 26 hours to get to port just to sail her.

In response to not knowing if you'll even set foot on land...this is a chance you take with ANY cruise.

From my experience there was indeed some rocking but it wasn't bothersome and occured mostly at night when we were sleeping. I felt the sea sickness issue on Serenade in Alaska with rough seas but on Majesty it really isn't anything more than a gentle rock if you even notice it. I would buy medicine if you think any amount of rocking would be an issue for you.

Gosh, I hope not, since I know who will beplaying in the piano bar over the summer. FYI, Bolero's is on Deck 7 and the Schooner Lounge (which is the piano bar on all RCCL ships) is on Deck 5 outside of the casino.

My 23 year-old daughter and I went on a Mother/Daughter cruise on Majesty in October. It was the 4 nighter and we both loved it!!! Isn't wild except maybe during spring break it might be! There is a lot to do and see. It may be a smaller ship than the freedom class (they're the biggest in the world) but don't forget it is still a ship, not a boat. It's plenty large enough for what it does, short cruises. There is only one port that there is a possibility of missing and that is Coco Cay if the weather is bad because they tender. Nassau & Key West are both docked, the only way that you would miss either would be in the event of a hurricane and that is the chance that you take durring hurricane season on any size ship and for any port in the Carribbean. IMHO, I think you'll have a great time on Majesty if you want too. Enjoy your cruise!!!!

That's the amazing thing. When we stepped aboard, we grasped mentally that the Majesty was half-the-size of a Voyager class ship for instance. But for all the world, it doesn't really feel all that small. It's still a very large ship. Have a great time.

Yep, we spent every evening at the Schooner bar on the Majesty; it is still there;)

The original poster was asking about a short cruise for the girls (perfect) I don't think I would like to do a long cruise on this ship either, you may run out of things to do on sea days. It is perfect for just what they want, a short trip with the girls to have sun and fun:D

You asked about seasickness? The first night out of Miami we had some rocking for a couple of hours. The captain informed us of this at the muster drill. He did tell us that it would last until around 10pm that night and he was right! It didn't bother me, but, our daughter-in-law and grandson were sick and didn't stay at dinner. By 10:15 they were fine and out exploring the ship.

Now, on the Navigator we had ruff seas the last day and night and OMG! we had to take the hangers out of the closet the last night because they were banging the doors! Of course I wouldn't want to be on a small ship in ruff waters like that.

You probably would want to get a patch or some meds before you leave, just in case. We bought some over the counter stuff before our first cruise in 2005 and I have never opened the box. I have a friend who gets sick as soon as she walks on a ship and they allways cruise on a big ship, she just wears a patch. I hear that the meds can make you sleepy and the patch doesn't.

You ladies have a good time;)

Annie:)
