Adults Only cruise 2009?

Does anyone know if Celebrity is offering an Adults Only cruise in 2009? I know they have in the past, but not sure if this is still an available option...thanx!

Highly unlikely...unless you book on the Atlantis Charter, but boy the thought of no kids is EXTREMELY inviting to me.

An adults-only cruise appeals to us, too, and I wish Celebrity would consider doing some of those again.

 

If I'm not mistaken, P & O has two ships that cater strictly to adults: the Arcadia and the Artemis (the former Royal Princess).

 

Some say that Azamara is a more adult experience, but I saw photos of a holiday cruise that showed kids in hot tubs, sloppily-dressed groups of teens, etc. so that does not meet our requirement.

 

In fact, it is during Spring Break and other holiday periods when we are most interested in adults-only cruising.

Sailing when school is in session+Late dining=No Kids

We really haven't seen many kids on any of our cruises using this formula. We don't mind children that are well behaved.

SAGA, a British cruise line operates two ships that are adult only (50+). Cruise critic has a review of the line and the two ships.

 

As the male half of a couple that is childless by choice, my wife and I (both of us are educators by the way, me - a college admininistrator and she's a music teacher) we have taken a number of vacations to child-free resorts and would jump at the opportunity to go on a child-free mainline cruise.

 

We have nothing against kids. We have much against bad parents, and bad parenting is always in someone else's eyes. Most "bad" parents don't view themselves as such and don't recognize unruly behavior in their own children, only in others.

 

Without going into a complete rant, I think the thing that bothers me the most about the behavior of some kids on cruises is:

 

1. Children in inappropriate locations (like hovering at a bar)

2. Shared facilities that have been taken over by children (like the hot tubs)

3. Children whining and having attitude about the "dressing up" instead of viewing it like a costume party or a sophisticated setting

4. Parents who feel that their kids somehow are entitled to special attention just because they are kids

5. Horseplay in potentially dangerous locations or in areas that can disturb others (like running in the halls or riding up and down on the elevators).

6. Children not respecting "quiet" areas

7. Parents who bring their children to inappropriate shows (I'm not talking about risque stuff, I'm talking about expecting a 4 year old to sit through a classical music program). Also, parent's who allowed their kids to heckle the comedians - I saw this on a =X= cruise to Bermuda.

 

I could go on...

 

Several years ago i took a RCCL cruise in the Med. Because the cruise was so port intensive, the kids were unobtrusive during the days and exhausted at night. It was delightful.

 

Cruising is a delightful vacation and one that kids and adults can enjoy together. The first vacation I remember taking with my parents was a cruise when I was 4 years old (to Bermuda - a photo of me in my sailor suit with a captain is a favorite). I just don't want someone else's kids to detract from my enjoyment.

 

I hope I haven't opened up a whole can of worms...

I don't mind kids as long as they are well-behaved.

 

Two things that I've noticed on my cruises:

1) the act of merely walking seems to be an incomprehensibly alien concept to many (or most) children and teen-agers. They must RUN! Thump-Thump-THUMP along the deck.

2) once two kids enter a pool, the adult swimmers will exit, as they know that other kids will follow and there will be lots of splashing and horseplay.

I don't mind children so much as bad parenting. The number of parents who will just watch as their kids tear up the place is mind-boggling. You know these same people would sue like mad if anything ever happened to their precious children. My feeling is that a part of my cruise fare goes to support the kids club and other things that help our parents. The rest of it is up to them! People who sit in the dining room while their sticky-fingered kids "visit" other tables should be quarantined.

We would love an adults only cruise. Fortunately, we have the flexibity to sail when school is normally in session and usually take longer cruises, so that the impact of kids is minimal. However, there are cruises that we otherwise might enjoy but won't consider because of the likelihood of masses of runamuck kids whose upbringing has been ignored by irresponsible parents (who get the blame).

 

I find it amazing that, by total coincidence, our two grandkids are the best in the world;) .

As a Mother of two and Grandmother to one I am in total agreement with everything that has been posted, sign me up for the adults only cruise. If I want to cruise with the Grandchildren I will find an appropriate cruise to do that. These options should be available all the time. The fact that someone does not enjoy or care to even tolerate unruly children is totally understandable....I never understood the "They're only kids so deal with it"mentality.:cool:

Count us in as well! The last cruise we took, on the Galaxy was almost kidless...I dont think I saw more than 5 or 6 kids total the entire trip, and they were well behaved. If all kids were as well behaved as the ones on that ship, then it would be great. Although, those 5 or 6 kids may have been a lot different had there been a lot of other kids to run amok with...just a speculation.

As people say on another forum that I belong to, talking about a subject like this on a forum isn't going to get anything changed! LET THE CRUISE LINES KNOW that there is a demand for adults-only cruises, by writing (or e-mailing) their Customer Service departments. P&O isn't the answer - this option should be available from time to time in the Caribbean, Alaska, etc.

 

We have kids, teenagers now, but we prefer to do other types of vacations with them and do our cruises without them, even though they have been raised to not run around like little maniacs. And as other posters say, if the other kids on board were well behaved, it would be a different story. But we've been on cruises where you can't get near the hot tubs because they're full of 12 year olds! Now try to find a crew-member who will do anything about enforcing the "children under 16 must be supervised" rule.

 

I'm sure that if each cruise line would dedicate, as an example, ONE summer Caribbean itinerary, one Alaska cruise, etc., to adults only, they would have no problem selling it out. Spring and Fall aren't an issue, since most kids are in school anyway. If they can take ships out of inventory for charters, then they can "deprive" those same families for an occasional itinerary for those who want a peaceful week!

Celebrity used to offer Adults only cruises. We took one several years ago, I know it was Caribbean, I don't recall if it was on Horizon or Millie. We have usually been fortunate enough to cruise longer itineraries and when kids are in school. One thing that we really enjoyed was that the entertainment and activities were more adult in nature.

I have asked on subsequent cruises, and have been told there wasn't much of a demand so they stopped doing it.

What I'm reading here from some posters is not so much a kid-free cruise but a cruise with well behaved kids. That's reasonable.

 

But then I would like a cruise with no rude smokers or loud drunks that stumble out of the casino, or deck chair hogs, barge onto elevators, and other ill mannered behavior. On our last cruise the couple across the hall were fighting constantly, every other word out the mans mouth was the F-Bomb. Is there such a cruise?

And though one used to be able to count on a kid free when school is in session, that is no longer true. We were on a cruise the first week of December and it had more infants than I have ever seen (and heard) on any cruise and a good number of other ages as well. Between home schooling and the number of parents willing to pull kids out of school whenever they wish, there are simply no "safe" times.

 

I would LOVE a kid free cruise to the Caribbean esp. at holiday time. It's a shame that it will likely never happen:(. Luckily, there are AI resorts that fill this gap for us.

Azamara caters to the adult crowd more than Celebrity does.

 

They don't have childrens programs and have 2 specialty resturants.

 

Plus they have extended crusing and go a lot of different places.

My wife and I just returned from an adults only AI. Blue Bay Getaway Villas in Dominican Republic. It was my first AI and I really enjoyed it. The resort is a 4 star. It was very relaxed, both during the day and at night. There were a few people who tried to drink their money's worth (but you will find them in any vacationing group) but most were just interested in relaxing. The sound of the resort was different - no kids running and shrieking. There were a number of women who took advantage of the adults only atmosphere to sunbath topless by the pool - after a very short while, everyone just took it for granted; no big deal. The resorts to either side did have kids so being topless on the beach was frowned on but not forbidden.

I have been to about 20 different ones over the course of 18 years or so.

 

As with cruise ships, it is a get what you pay for vacation. I don't go for the drink til you puke resorts and don't want buffet food and fast food to be my two major food groups and there are plenty of those out there.

 

What I look for is high quality food and service, diversified dining options with no required reservations, a dress code for dinner, an upscale ambiance, older crowd (no spring breakers, 20 somethings not the norm), great gym and spa, diverse activities, great accomodations.

 

The best we have found is Le Blanc in Cancun. (If you look at in online it will remind you of Solstice:)). It was a diverse, sophisticated crowd, food was excellent by resort and cruise ship standards, service very attentive, butlers for every room, wonderfully appointed rooms, good choice of included wines and top shelf liquors. We were bowled over and are going back in 8 weeks.

 

We were blissfully pampered. No chair hogs, two fabulous infinity pools and attendants that prepare your chair for you and keep unused ones free and clear. Food service by the pool as well. And the butler would prepare a jacuzzi for us in the evenings after dinner, lay out our favorite bottle of wine and robes and slippers, fresh towels, put on a jazz CD, start our chosen aromatherapy scent, and open the drapes so we could sit in the 2 person hot tub and gaze at the ocean.

 

We are also checking out the Iberstar Grand Hotel Paraiso for 4 nights located on a great beach about 20 minutes from Le Blanc. We visited there (and a dozen other AIs) and were very impressed with the facilities.
