New London,ct-mystic Seaport Tour

Has anyone taken the HAL shore excursion to Mystic Seaport on the New London port visit? Would you recommend the tour or look for a tour on the pier?

I live in Connecticut and can recommend Mystic Seaport as a worthwhile destination for the day.

Another little advertised attraction would be the Submarine Museum in Groton (just a few miles from where you'll be docked in New London). I always tell visitors that visiting the USS Nautilus is the only thing you can do in Connecticut for free!

Many thanks Captbill! We are looking forward to seeing Mystic. As a retired 'skimmer' we had a chance to see the submarine museum in Pearl Harbor. I would agree that seeing the sub base at Groton would be a recommeded destination for anyone!

Mystic Seaport is a great place to spend a few hours. You walk in there and it is like stepping back into the 18th century. The Nautilus Museum is also very interesting. Coming from a Naval family I love places like that. However, don't think that you are going to get on the sub base these days. Security is very tight.

[b][font=Comic Sans MS][color=blue]We did the Mystic Seaport tour when we were on the Maasdam this past May - loved it. We spent several hours there and then took the shuttle over to the town itself and toured there - lots of quant shops.[/color][/font][/b]

[b][font=Comic Sans MS][color=#0000ff]We took the ship's excursion. Since this was our first time there, we weren't certain about where to rent a car and we couldn't find any information about buses going there from the ship. The ship docks in an industrial area.[/color][/font][/b]
