Another idea to protect your purse

Hi silly question and I understand the need to protect your purse or cards etc. I'll be using the pacsafe across the body little purse..but on the ship if you only need your sign and sail..how do you carry that around..or do you still need a purse, and what about formal night do you carry a purse then..I really don't know what to do with the sign and sail card..what do you do..thanks

For me, during the day on the ship, I just stick my sign and sail card in my pocket, most of my pants have pockets so that works out. During dinner, I'm usually carrying extra stuff with me, lip gloss, hairbrush, mints, band aids, lotion, cash for the casino, etc. so I just carry a small purse with me. But I'm a bit more lax I guess you could say about my purse on the cruise. For instance, in the dining room, I'll leave it by my feet, but when eating somewhere sketchy, my bag stays on my lap with the strap through my arm.

I always make my husband carry my sign and sail card when we swim! He has velcro pockets in his swimsuit. Sometimes I don't even take my card, he just puts his in his pockets. :o :D

We usually stick together anyway.

However, on our last cruise, I carried a small white satin purse at night. We were on NCL and I had a lot of brightly-colored clothes, so it went with everything. :)

My kids laugh at me but I used my trusty witz box. I got them at home at a sporting good store and I also found them at Ron Jonn's at Cocoa Beach. I wear it all the time on the ship except for formal night when it is in my dinky fancy purse, and I also wear it to the grocery store. I have one that is wide enough to hold a phone and a tube of lipstick. Woo Whoo

My parents took a river boat cruise through Europe a few months ago.

My mom was on a train and had her purse between her legs, being very careful to not leave it alone. She stood up to put something in her pocket. While she was standing, a theif came in from behind and took her wallet from her purse. :(

People saw it, but thought it was her husband. She was hysterical, being in a foreign country...they had her credit cards, her license etc, but thankfully only $60 cash.

She said the cruiseline was great about helping her make all the calls to the credit card companies.

On our last cruise, I had a purse with a short thick strap, zippered with inner pocket that zipped. I put my money, cruise card, in the zippered inner pocket. When I carried my purse on my shoulder, I carried the zippered end to the front where I could see it. Over the years and lots of traveling has made be very aware of what could happen.

With all the warnings about pickpockets in Amsterdam, I wore the Pouch Safe under my tops last year with my credit card and a copy of my passport and some Euros. The only thing was it was hard to get to if I needed something, so I usually asked my husband. (But nothing was stolen...)

I wear my Seapass card on a lanyard on board and tuck it under my clothes in port. It is easy to retrieve it when re-entering the ship. However that wouldn't work on formal nights, so I gave it to my husband.;)

I really like my Pacsafe bag. Took it to Europe last summer and will take it again this year. When you lock it down, even I had trouble getting into it!

Can I ask which one you got? I need one for a few essentials that I can't take in my waterproof pac when snorkeling, like my camera, camcorder & sunglasses. Someone on another thread said they use it to store their camera & lock it to an imovable object when they go snorkeling. Some places have small lockers to store your things but even so it still could be a good idea I think.

I have one of these perslocks....it's actually really cool. It's not a pain at all. It looks really cute - I get compliments on it all of the time. What's nice is that when I want to secure my purse, I don't have to dig around in my purse for it, it's right there.

I use it alot at restaurants and at the grocery store. It only takes like 3 seconds to secure it and even less to unhook it. It is a really good theft deterrent. I have my purse stolen years ago - and I know that if I had it secured like I do now, it wouldn't have happened.

The price has gone down quite a bit - it's around $30.00 on line, but I think still $55 at the stores. I think it's just for a limited time.

For me, it was a great investment. :)

Happy traveling!

QUOTE=RachieLnnn;13733899]Hi all,

I'm not sure if anyone else saw this segment on a morning news show, but this looks like a great item.

You can use it to secure the zipper on your purse as well as to secure your purse to a chair, grocery cart, etc.

I thought it might come in handy on a cruise in certain ports! Does anyone own this item? I'm thinking of purchasing one...

Hardly ever carry a purse except to Church, so when I am out shopping, etc. I only take my credit card and ID. I never carry money of any kind! DH tells me I should always keep some on me, but I figure if someone is going to shoot, rob or mug me, they aren't getting one red cent off of me. As far as the credit card, it has my picture on it, and I don't sign the back, except "check ID". This way they always still ask for a form of ID even though they can clearly see it is me on the front of the card.

The thief who would rob me would end up being very disappointed. I hardly ever carry more than $10 in cash and I keep most of my credit cards at home, I only take with me what I need for the day. I would miss my purse more than anything, the part the thief would probably discard

The comment about not signing your name or writing "check ID" is a good one. In our store, we only check ID for a credit card if it is not signed. Sometimes I still check if the amount being charged is high and the customer always appreciates it, I always mention I want to check ID for their protection.

I have my own cheesy version of the purse clip, I got the idea from a co-worker. I just use a carabiner clip, mine is pink. I'm forever having to hunt down my car key at the bottom of my purse, so I started clipping it to the metal connection strap. I suppose I could clip the whole thing to a grocery cart, I'll have to try it next time I shop.

We carry the Pacsafe purses now and I think they are great. Not what I would want to carry on a daily basis, but for travel they would be fine. Most of the colors are neutral, there are a few different sizes and configurations, even some men would not mind carrying. The bag has a mesh liner to prevent slashing, the straps have wire run through them to prevent cutting, the zippers are either hidden under a flap or have a clip to secure them. If I hadn't already purchased a travel purse, I would have bought one for myself.

I have always used caribiners as my "locks". I have different sizes and colors. I have one that is spring-loaded that I have attached to the outside of my purse to hold my keys. The zipper on my current purse has a leather toggle on it that I can slip onto that caribiner to secuire it. I have some that screw closed. I use those to attach my zippers together, on purses, daypacks, and luggage. On some of my luggage, I use those split-ring keychains - put the ring through both zipper pulls. They deter the casual thief. Plus, if the keyring is colorful, it makes for easy ID of your bag on the carosel.

I have been doing this for years, and I don't think it's cheesy at all! :D

I did this on my camera backpack that I carried in Europe - I used it as my day bag (I returned the eBags bag I had ordered after I found out I'd be taking this camera) and simply locked all the zippers this way. Worked great!

One of my pet peeves: Ladies that leave their purse in the grocery cart, and walk 5, 10, 15 feet down the isle. I've had to speak to two ladies just this week. NEVER put your purse in the cart. I do not hesitate to tell them just what their risking!

p.s. I found a purse, complete with wallet, cell phone, and who knows what, sitting in a shopping cart outside Wallyworld just a few months ago. I marched it inside to customer convienience and can only hope there smart enough to track it there.

I use pockets, and seldom carry a purse. I have a belt with a hidden zipper for use with cash if I'm ashore. No one's ever wanted my belt..lol

Use an around the waist type bag, I know there not "in" but are much less prone to theft.

Cool idea...but kinda pricey @ $55.00.

BEAUTIFUL HOUND, MOM!

We are a borzoi rescue home, and it was SO hard to leave our three "bozos" behind when we cruised last week - but SO nice to come home to that much LOVE!
