Just back from the Majesty, any questions

Recommended Posts

To be honest I did not expect much as this was a 4 day on a small ship, but I was pleasantly surprised. The ships updates made it a beautiful ship. The layout of windjammer and the addition of JR, Sorrento's and the deli, just a flight up, made a big difference, you could always find a seat. As usual the service was good and the food also. And while Sorrento's is NOT NY pizza, there are no pizzas that even come close to it outside of NY. But I ate it anyhow. The latitudes bar also had gelato ( for a fee) but it was well worth it.

The size took some getting used to, you could walk from front to back in the blink of an eye. We had a cabin on deck 2 , a first for us, but since we departed from deck one in the ports, it was just a quick flight of stairs back to our room.

Key west was our fav port. CocoCay was nice and the Bahamas is a place we have been to before and it is not our fav. But the straw market was an experience.

One of the staff told us when they upgraded the Sovereign, Monarch and Majesty, they kept making adjustments and improvements and the Majesty turned out the best of all three. They all seemed so proud of their little ship and made our trip perfect.

Also he told us that all three would eventually be moved to the new European line, with Majesty leaving last.

It was spring break and lots of partiers, but who cares, we had a good time and that is all that counts. I am not a curmudgen who finds fault with younger people. Yes at times they were loud and enthusiastic, but that adds life to a cruise. I hate quiet as I was at a RE convention the week before and part of our entertainment was a night a Islands of Adventure, so I like fun!

We'll board the Majesty in just a few weeks, surprisingly we are getting very excited about this cruise. We usually cruise on the larger ships and I was happy to hear that you enjoyed your cruise.

Was the cabin really that small????

The cabins are SUPER small on this ship, but believe me, you're not in them much anyways. It's like the size of a walk in closet - if that. This ship is great...I am a bit biased cause she was the first ship I was on, but even before the refurb, I loved her.

Barbara-

Did you find that it was too much of a hassle to travel from NY to FL to go on the Majesty for just 4 days? We're from CT and I'd love to go on the Majesty in May for the 4 day but I'm wondering if it's too much of a tease as I've never taken such a short cruise. Did you feel too rushed?

Thanks!

Laura

Thanks SO much for this info. I've heard good things and bad about this ship and came here looking for more info. I've got the 4-day leaving May 5 on courtesy hold over night while I continue to think about it but I think we're going to book it.

We sailed for the first time with RCI in Sept 2005 on the Enchantment (Canada New England) and loved it so we wanted to use the same cruise line again but I was worried about the smaller ship and abbreviated itinerary.

What is there to do at night on the ship?

Do they have activities and things to keep busy with?

Were the shows good?

Is there a formal night on a 4-day?

Also, the cabin I have held is on deck 7. We usually cruise way down in the lowest, cheapest deck but I was thinking it might be nice to be up higher this time. I was thinking about going even higher to the 9th deck but I was wondering what your opinion of this is. Do you think it would be worth the extra $$$ or is the ship small enough that we should go low and cheap?

Wow, I'm full o'questions today!

Thanks again for your review of the ship.

Shows: really good and funny! Check the compass for times.

Formal night is Nassau on the second night. It's the only formal night

At night the bars, casinos, movies, dancing etc.

Majesty is a small ship but she is a great ship and with the refurb, I hear she is just beautiful. This is a busy 3 port itinerary so you'll have lots to do. That said, I would suggest to go low and go cheap: you really don't spend anytime in your room on this cruise unless you're avoiding the ports etc etc.

I've been on the ship 3 times and love it. Yes, the cabins are tiny but they are so well laid out and have so much storage that I like them WAY better than the same category huge cabin on the Carnival Fantasy. I wouldn't want to have 3 people in an OV though.

I had a JS twice and they easily accomodate 3 people.

The deck lay out is great and easy to navigate.

The crew is right up there in friendliness with the Enchantment of the Seas.

We've only done the weekend 3 nighters and it's never been like a young person's rowdy party crowd. It's been an all age well-behaved party crowd with a full casino. It's fun to just hang out and watch and talk even if you don't gamble and the ventilation has been so good when I've been in there, even with the crowds, that smoke wasn't a major problem.

Did you notice more movement of the ship, since it's a smaller ship? My wife is very sensitive to being seasick, so I'm weighing this ship vs a larger one.

The weather is so unpredictable that even if it was a large ship, you're likely to get some rocking at some point. Book low and in the middle of the ship to offset this as much as possible.

My experience (which was good weather with a little wind) had us rocking at night, but only enough to lull you to sleep.

All of our cruises have been out of FL and we fly down from "east nowhere" in New York. No, we don't find it to be a tease on the short cruises. Depending on the departure, we usually go the day before ... especially when going out of Miami ... and enjoy a little relaxation and wind-down before heading out on the cruise. Usually by Friday we are ready to be home after getting off the ship.

We are from Pa and we dont feel rushed, but we do not want to get off the ship. We always go down the day before the cruise so we can chillax and ease into it...:D We are boarding her in a few weeks ( 4/14 ) Need a short getaway from work to cleanse the mind....LOL !!

I'm taking my 15 y/o son (and friend) on her for his birthday in July as well. July 7th sailing. He'll be 16 the 21st but will be away then so we are getting it in early. When do you sail?

Bummer, we sail on the 28th of July.. Guess you can give us a review. He can't wait. Honestly, neither can I. I'm addicted to cruising, and it's been almost a year..

If your room on deck 7 is oceanview remember your window looks out to the promenade deck so people walking by can look into your room. You will have to keep your curtains closed.

My advice: The best cabin, bang-for-your-buck-wise, is Deck 8, category I. It's the cheapest OV cabin, but they are all the same size! Deck is a great deck, location-wise, and the "obstructed" view doesn't mean much. I mean, how much to do look out your window?!?!?!?! It lets in just as much light. :)

Sorry I have not responded sooner, but I am recovering from a bout of Bronchitis.

We had driven down to Orlando for my Century 21 Real Estate convention so we only had to drive down to Miami from there. (As I am an independent contractor, I get to deduct the travel expenses for me, but to fly I can only deduct my flight...plus we like to drive) It did add some time going back to NY, but we have friends in Ormond Beach so we stopped for lunch with them. Since it was an add on the a already planned trip, it was well worth it for us. But we normally do 7 or more nights.

We had a cabin on deck 2, a first for us, it seemed smaller than even the one on the Empress, but we had plenty of space it was well laid out.

Formal night was day two, Nassau, but reboarding was 3:30 so it was easy to get ready, esp for 2nd seating.

The shows we saw were very good.

There as plenty to do, for a small ship, it had alot going on. I would do that ship again if I were in Orlando already ( we have a timeshare there so it is not a big deal for us).
