cruiser2101 Posted March 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2008 How far is it to Dragon's Breath Point (and other points of interest) from the tender? We love to explore on foot. Are the trails just sand or are they paved? I want to make sure I have the right shoes.
Sue L Posted March 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2008 It is not that far to anywhere in Labadee. There is also a little tram that takes you around. The trails were hard packed sand not paved and I had on water shoes and the walking was fine with them.
cb at sea Posted March 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2008 It's mostly hard-packed sand. Flip-flops are ok for walking around most places! I would think you could get from one end to the other in about 15-20 mins of slow ambling!
pmfan Posted March 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2008 You can easily walk around the entire area in 20 minutes.
sandytoes03 Posted March 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 16, 2008 We walked around all day with no shoes--but flip flops will be fine.:o
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted March 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 16, 2008 I find the sand at Labadee a little course. For me it is too abrasive to walk very far barefoot. I have beach sandals from LL Bean that work beautifully there. (and Coco Cay, too.) You can get them wet if you want to wade a little in the water. By the way, some above have said the sand is hard packed sand. Maybe the base of the sand is hard packed, but the top layer is quite loose and deep enough that it is easy to get sand in your shoes if you are wearing a typical closed jogging or walking shoe. From the tender boat dock to Dragon's Breath Point is about a third of a mile, maybe a little more. It is a pleasant walk and lovely view. I hope you enjoy Labadee as much as we do. KelJ Posted March 17, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2008 We walked around all day with no shoes--but flip flops will be fine.:o On one of our trips there, the sand was very hot. We didn't get far in bare feet.
CaribbeanCrush Posted March 17, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2008 On one of our trips there, the sand was very hot. We didn't get far in bare feet. I agree. The trails can get uncomfortable if you aren't a person who normally goes walking bare foot.
Rare BillOh Posted March 17, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2008 I'm glad you asked that. There is also lunch served at the Dragon's point area correct?
DEIx15x8 Posted March 17, 2008 #10 Share Posted March 17, 2008 It's worth the walk. There are plenty of great things to see and incredible shots of the ship from around the island. The paths are a mix of packed sand (some with loose sand on top) and rock paved paths. If you can be sure to head out to the end of the rock path by the zip line's ending platform. The sand was to hot to walk bare foot in June but sandals were fine.
