Ship's (Ryndam) time vs. shore time

I know - I know - It's been asked before, but I wasn't paying attention. On the Sea of Cortez cruise, is the ship's time the same as ports of call (specifically Puerto Vallarta)? If not, how much are they off and which direction? Just booked a day sail with Vallarta Adventures and they mentioned times may differ.

From what I have read on this board, PV is the only port that will be on different time than the ship on your cruise.

It's off by 1 hour, and I believe that PV is ahead of the ship.

Someone will correct that if I'm wrong on the direction part.

I'm pretty sure that what I've read indicates that if you're racing back to the ship in the nick of time, you have an hour to spare.

Ruth is correct, PV is an hour earlier then SD time. We were on the March 16th cruise, where there wasn't any notification of that fact, nothing in the activities bulletin, or anything else. Consequently we had made dinner reservation and missed it because we were then an hour late for that reservation. So then we got worried about ship time and like Ruth said we hurried back to the ship only to find out they were still on SD time. They did tell us early in the morning we were leaving PV an hour earlier then state in any of the brochures or Hal's website, thank goodness for that, funny because we weren't sure about ship time we all show up early. It just turned out to be a big mess, I did complain. Also, we end up leaving Mazatlan an hour early, too.

Usually when you are in the Caribbean, when you change time zones, they change the ship time to corollate with shore time, I don't understand why they don't do that for PV, maybe because it is only one day, but they really need to make sure their passenger know what the heck is going on.

I seem to remember that there was mention that you should stay on ship time, if in doubt. But our Ryndam cruise, the week when the US changed their clocks - Mexico didn't. So I mentioned it to a couple of the staff and they didn't seem to be aware of the different time changes. (incuding the cruise director) I got the feeling that they were on "cruise control" - no pun intended. I don't blame them, I would be the same if I were doing the same cruise every 10 days. But it never seemed to come up that we moved our clocks forward and never went back because of the time change in the US. It shorted us the 1 extra hour sleep on the trip home. (Or I could say 1 hour less to loose our $$ in the casino!)

There is one time change, and it is advertised well in flyers in your room mail and on the TV.....it will not affect your life at all....:)

The only reason we need to know is the day sail we booked in PV leaves at 9:45 a.m.; we are due to arrive 8:00 ship's time (9:00 PV time if I'm reading this right). Just wanted to be sure we get to our tour before they leave without us! Or cancel if I need to. I know, most excursion/tours are aware of ship's time and will make allowances for that, but they didn't mention it.

45 minutes is cutting it pretty tight IMO. It could take that long to get off the ship after docking.

That's right! I forgot how long it can take to get off the ship - even if you're first in line.

We will be on the Ryndam the week after you, I was very concerned about the time myself. We found a sailing adventure through Puerto Vallarta tours that leaves at 1:00

Keep in mind some of the sailing tours leave from the other side of the marina and you have to take a taxi to get there. That is why we chose the later trip.

I have been going back and forth with the tour operator on this and she swears the ship docks at 8 a.m. local time (or 7 a.m. ship's time). I have told her I will keep my booking if she will guarantee a refund if she is wrong about ship's time and we miss the excursion. She says she'll guarantee the ship arrives at 8 a.m. local time.

 

Anybody have any thoughts on this? The tour is through Vallarta Adventures which someone on these boards recommended highly. I'd hate to lose our money, but also don't want to miss out on a fun excursion. Anybody who has done the Mexican Riviera on the Ryndam remember what time you docked in PV? I really appreciate your help!
