du4mch Posted April 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Looking for some past cruisers who have pre cruise hotel info for San Juan. Where did you stay and who did you booked thru? Expedia, Priceline, Directly ect... How close to the pier? Our cruise is in Nov. Figured this early we might have a wide choice of Hotels.
A Sixth? Posted April 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2008 I'm sure this thread will get yanked to the Puerto Rico sections but here goes. I must assume that you are interested in staying near the piers, since you didn't mention anything about wanting beach, pool, kiddie slide or what ever. We like the Milano (http://www.hotelmilanopr.com/) and SJ Suites (http://www.sjsuites.com/) They are less than a block apart on Fortaleza Street in Old San Juan. There are bars, restaurants, grocery and drug stores as well as all the historical things Old San Juan has to offer. Go in at least a day early to take some of the area in. It is one of the most interesting posts of call in the Caribbean IMHO Fortaleza Street runs parallel and two blocks north of the harbour, and both hotels are an easy stroll to the ships if you can handle your own luggage. (unless you embark at the Pan Am pier which is a five-seven minute cab ride) Old San Juan is only 15 minutes from the airport and a cab will run about $ 20.00 if memory serves Here's a map (http://www.travelmaps.com/OldSanJuan.html)
cferro514 Posted April 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2008 I stayed in a nice hotel called EL Covento a few years ago. I was in San Juan on a cruise about two weeks ago, and the area is still the same. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147320-d148043-Reviews-El_Convento_Hotel-San_Juan_Puerto_Rico.html

Expedia, Priceline, Directly ect... How close to the pier? Our cruise is in Nov. Figured this early we might have a wide choice of Hotels. I have not stayed in SJU as part of a cruise but I do go to SJU yearly for vacation. I think even if I was cruising from SJU I think I would prefer to stay near the hotel area just for the beach and nicer pools. The EL San Juan is nice and they have some fairly reasonable rates. Join their online email news and they will send you some good specials. http://www.elsanjuanhotel.com/winter_escape/?src=eblast_nov_winter_escape_promo

amy417 Posted April 6, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Can anyone help with a resort type hotel that will give us a day pass while we are in San Juan. We just want somewhere to stow our luggage and relax for several hours before our flight leaves.
Rare mizLORInj Posted April 6, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Stayed at Sheraton in Old San Juan. Sunday morning checked out and walked across the street to the pier to check in. Nice hotel and great location. I booked it directly with Sheraton. Was less $ than with Princess as a pre-cruise hotel. Enjoy!!

BillyJen Posted April 7, 2008 #11 Share Posted April 7, 2008 We were in San Juan Feb. 27-28-29/08 pre-cruise Crown Princess. We stayed at the Comfort Inn right next to the Holiday Inn, Condado Beach area. The room was clean, nothing fancy, comfortable and the price was right. We booked through Comfort Inn toll free #. The location was great, just a few minutes walk to the beach and the Casino. We happened to go into the El Convento Hotel to get out of the rain. We had lunch there and really enjoyed our couple hours there. A lot of history and one of the most charming place we've been to. The El Convento Hotel is right in the heart of Old San Juan. The cathedral is right across the street and I beleive it to be the oldest church in the Caribbean. Even if you're not Catholic, it's a very interesting site to visit. The Sheraton is right across the street from the pier. A little pricey as far as we're concerned. Taxis in San Juan and Old San Juan are very reasonable and if you get accomodations in the Condado Beach Area or in Old San Juan, the most you'll spend for a taxi to the pier is $20.00. While in Old San Juan, there a very charming restaurant called "Barrachina" which claims to be the inventor of the Pina Colada. In fact, we had a mini CruiseCritics "Meet and Mingle Meeting" there. Everybody enjoyed the meeting. If you have the time and in shape to walk for a little over one hour, I would highly recommend visiting the Rain Forest. Any hotel you stay in can make the arrangements. Have a good cruise. Bill
CHINESE CAT Posted April 7, 2008 #12 Share Posted April 7, 2008 Sheraton is right across the street from the dock. If you book through Princess, it is $10 more but they provide transportation. I think it is a good deal and usually I can beat the cruise prices. You can see the Sheraton from the starboard side of the Crown.
mollyanne Posted April 7, 2008 #13 Share Posted April 7, 2008 We booked the Sheraton OSJ through Hotwire last week for $109 for November. Hotel's website was at $199 when we booked direct (now $219) and Princess wanted almost $300 per couple. I don't expect to be spending much time in the room and that's a good amount of $$$ to put towards other things!
jnv Posted April 7, 2008 #14 Share Posted April 7, 2008 has anyone stayed at Oceana Hostal Playero? We booked through priceline and that is the hotel we got, the price was good by San Juan standards. Last year we stayed on night at the Holiday Inn Express - room was clean and included continental breakfast which was ok, too. Nothing fancy, but just hoping the Oceana is clean. Any info would be appreciated. thanks.
