Rare MMDown Under Posted April 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2008 I just watched a fabulous Panama Canal Timelapse crossing on You Tube, where the people were watching the crossing from the very front of the ship (pointy end). Can you watch the crossing, like this, from either Mercury or Infinity?
Rare DrKoob Posted April 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2008 If you mean as far forward as possible then no, that is crew only on both ships. But there are plenty of great places to stand that are higher (especially on C class ships--Mercury) than the front (pointy part). We transited the Straits of Messina and the Bosporus in front of the gym/spa which is right above the bridge. It would be possible for a captain to allow pax to go out there but in our experience (Infinity) no one was allowed out there.
mrsmagnolia Posted April 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2008 Thank you for asking the question that I had been thinking of asking since i saw that you tube video, we will be on the Infinity next March 29th and would have loved to been "up there", sure we will enjoy it from where we will be able to.:p
Rare MMDown Under Posted April 7, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted April 7, 2008 Thanks, I thought that might be the case. When we cruised on SuperStar Leo they let us take turns at posing, like in the movie Titanic, up front of the pointy end, prior to departure. BillC Posted April 7, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2008 When we cruised through the Canal, the Captain opened the crew's deck to passengers. It was very hot and humid, so they had a constant stream of pool butlers coming through with ices towels, ice water and lemonade. Fantastic way to see how the traverse works. On another trip we took the Canal shore excursion, which drive you through the countryside to the middle locks, where you board a small ferry boat that actually goes through the locks and lets you off in Panama City. You then get on a bus and drive back to the northern side of the Canal. This is the BEST way to see the Canal and locks up close and personal.
