White Pass Scenic Railroad

Can anyone tell me if this is walkable from the cruise ship pier? Looks like it is slightly cheaper to book this excursion direct but not sure if it is easy to get to from the ship.

Thanks!

I check, not a big difference?

if you call or try to book online, usually, they will tell you that it has to be done through the cruise ship (for the normal 3 1/2 hr round-trip).

the trains, for each cruise, will be right at the different docks. you can try going to the depot, the day you are there, and seeing if tickets are available.

When we did this 2 years ago, the price difference between the cruise tour and going independently was minimal.

If still true - I recommend you book thru the cruise. They have separate cars that will pick you up right at the pier and take the cruise passengers on their own trip. that way you also don't risk any delays with getting back!

The bus is a local bus that drives from the pier to the town for a small fee.

We booked this trip thru Chilkoot Charters rather than the ship. Yes, the price difference was small, but the attraction of Chilkoot over the ship's excursion was being in a small group rather than on a coach bus of 40+ passengers. We were able to stop at overlooks and scenic spots that the buses had to cruise on past, either because of parking constraints or the logisitics of getting 40 people off and back on the bus.

why do they not show their tour prices on their website? i am interested in the whitepass rail and bus combo.

Greener, good question and I have no answer. I ended up calling them. The rail and bus combo was what we did and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day, even tho' we had rain on and off.
