We are sailing 5/31/08 and I can hardly wait anymore! DH and I have sailed on the Mariner before and are really trying to make sure we have it in our heads that we can't compare the two, just appreciate it for the different ship that it is! It doesn't sound like that will be hard to do considering all the wonderful reviews. This will be my 8 year olds first cruise and I can't wait to see her little face! I have a few questions if anyone wouldn't mind giving some info:

  • Are there alarm clocks in the rooms?
  • Can anyone describe the video game room? I am having a hard time deciding whether or not to give my child charging priviledges - would she need it for this?
  • Want to hang something on the door for my aunt/uncle's anniversary who are sailing with us - what will stick? (magnets, tape, etc.?)
  • Does anyone know if this ship has dect phones? Otherwise I will be bring walkie-talkies.

Thanks so much for any input!

We will be on her again for the 3rd time on May 31. We will hang a cruise critic sign on our stateroom door. Take some scotch tape. We can hardly wait.

I am so glad to read posts from people like you that have been on the Enchantment multiple times and are still excited about going again! It confirms that I did my homework and picked a great ship. Thanks!

We will be in 3547. We are taking my daughter her husband and Granddaughter this time. our granddaughter is 13 so she should meet some new friends. Be sure to go to the Love and marraige and Quest games. We hit them all including karaoke. Some are adults only but try to get to them. We are 65 years old but have made friends with younger couples each time we are cruising. I guess we are young at heart. We are already planning on another cruise in October.

The Diamonds were on last cruise and they sang songs from our younger days. They were great. We had Chad a comedian who also was outstanding. Look him up under you tube Enchantment of the seas. Some really good videos are on there.

i want to add that even though there aren't alarm clocks, each room has a phone with a "wake up call" system that is really an alarm clock in your phone. the wake up call isn't a person, but it's a time you set for the phone to ring. that's what we use for our "alarm clock" so we don't miss our excursions.

i've been on enchantment pre=stretch and post stretch and it's definately much nicer now. just know that if you get one of the rooms that isn't in the newly added section (and that's the majority of the rooms), your shower curtain is actually a curtain and you don't have a fridge minibar. the stretch put boleros, chops, ben and jerrys, seattles best, and a few other things into enchantment as well as a much improved pool deck. the solarium is where you want to be if you don't have kids. :-)

Thanks for writing this for us 1st timers on Enchantment. We booked cabin 8070 and were told it was in the new section, is it? Just wondering.

Absolutely. But it won't make a bit of difference.

Bon Voyage!

i looks like it is. if you look at the layout, you are in a clump of balcony rooms smack in the middle of the ship. i don't think the ship had balconies in that section and deck until the stretch. here's a pic of the ship before.....

Excellent - can't wait to see them (we're going on the 17th)! Any chance you could post menus, too? I'd love to know what's when . . .

I'll be sailing aboard the Enchantment Sept. 20, taking my elderlyn parents on their first-ever cruise. We're booked in Junior Suite handicapped cabin 8108 - is that in the "old" or "new" section? I chose it for the location - close to the elevators, as are all handicapped rooms.

I'm very anxious to see the Compasses from a recent Enchantment five-day cruise...I want to share them with Mom and Dad before we sail so they'll know what to expect. Thanks in advance to anyone who posts them or is willing to email copies of them to me...

I wouldn't use my SeaPass or credit card for the safe... we use either our Costco card or I've even used my reloadable Starbucks gift card.... just about any card with a magnetic strip works...

Wouldn't this mean anybody could get into your safe?

We've been on the Enchantment twice and going a third time in the fall. I think it's a great ship. Easy to get around (because it's not massive). Good personal service. Plus, frankly, aft balconies are cheaper on the Enchantment than on the larger ships. That alone made it worthwhile. It's a darn good ship. Have fun!

We (20 of us) will be on the June 28th sailing to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. Her birthday is formal night and we are all planning on getting very dressed up for it. My question is, is there still a tuxedo kiosk onboard or should we order the eight we will need ahead of time? Thanks Patti

no... the magnetic stripe of a card (credit card, gift card, etc.) is unique to the card, kind of like a fingerprint... therefore, only MY Costco card can open the safe since my card is registered and unique to me... as long as I have the card, only I can open the safe...

My wife and I have also said on enchantment before and after. I liked th new rooms for the shower reason. While I love the bigger class ships this one will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first ship I cuised on and is still a great ship!

okay, i'll try to answer a couple of questions here....

1. i don't know anything about junior suites because i've never stayed in one! :-) i always stay in the "regular folks" cabins, as i call them. on enchantment, i've stayed in interior rooms both times. and, i must say, our room after the remodel was much nicer. our room prestretch had a bathroom that kinda smelled moldy. On our september cruise, i stayed in room 3747, i believe. i know it was on the third deck and it was near the elevators.

2. the alarm clock thing - i don't need an additional alarm clock. i use the wake up call service. yes, the rooms are DARK but we always leave the bathroom door cracked at night.

3. the safes. we have used our seapass before without problem. but, if you loose your seapass, your outta luck. each seapass has a different magnetic strip, so i don't think that's the problem. we always use our credit card as our key. just make sure you don't loose it. i like the starbucks card idea though.

4. for the newbies to enchantment, make sure you book with chops. it was added after the stretch and totally worth it. also, the viking crown lounge on enchantment is one of my favorites. you can see the entire pool deck with really good views. a good place to have a drink and relax.

5. i'm not sure that there are any bad problems with staying under the pool. pool is deck 11, so you're not directly underneath it anyway. i've stayed on deck 8 on freedom and explorer as well as mariner and had no issues.

I have cruised on Enchantment over ten times...I have lost track...but being a diamond plus...I love the CL...it is the best...ocean view and great concierge...the staff is also excellent..but many of them are leaving because they do not want to do the Panama route and Enchantment is looking for bilingual staff members....the casino floor as you enter is lovely...the art work is still some of the best...the bronze man by the coffee shop is fantastic...as is the lady in the my fair lady dinning room...

however the food in the dinning room is not good...it is better (sad to say but true) in the Windjammer...and of course in Chops...I don't know what happened...but I don't eat in the dinning room any more...not worth the frustration. The ship is clean and kept up...repairs are constantly being made and the staff listens to you and values your opinion...so over all...it is one of the best ships in the fleet...I just wish they would improve the food in the dinning room...but I guess they have to cut costs some way.
