maztoz Posted April 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2008 Has anyone experienced the Lindblad river cruise that sails round trip from Portland, Oregon? We've been looking for an easy access, domestic, relaxation vacation and this appears to be a viable option. Thanks for any and all information! Benita Posted May 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2008 We went in 2006 and loved it. The bicentenial of the Lewis and Clark expedition was at that time and some emphasis was placed on the sights. The scenery was beautiful and the guides excellent. The food was great. The cabins are very small and outdated, but they were adequate.
orchestrapal Posted May 1, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2008 Friends returned from this "expedition" to report that it was more for "back-packers than cruisers". They loved the scenery but could not stand the old small ship.:(
Rare steamboats Posted May 1, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2008 maztoz, Did you also consider Majestic America Line? steamboats
maztoz Posted May 1, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted May 1, 2008 Thanks all. Appreciate the interesting info. We are searching around for what we like to call a "veggie cruise", something that allows time to rest and recuperate from real life. Beautiful scenery is a big plus, as is good food. Cabins don't have to be too fancy as long as the prices aren't. (Luxury cruising is wonderful, but so is back-packing) Just got started looking, so thanks for the mention of Majestic America. If there is something we can do round trip from New Orleans, so much the better!
Rare steamboats Posted May 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 2, 2008 maztoz, Majestic America Line is also running out of Portland :D (Columbia Queen, Queen of the West and Empress of the North). That´s why I´ve mentioned them. But in fact I´d prefer the New Orleans roundtrip  (only because of the steamboats). I´ve been on the Columbia Queen in 2005 when it was Great American River Journeys and the trip was great! But if you´re looking for something that allows you to rest then maybe better go for the New Orleans roundtrip. The cruises on the Columbia river do include all shore tours and this can be pretty stressy! We had one cruising day and most of the passengers opted not to go on the offered additional tour as they needed to relax from the shore tours (not because the tours were so stressy but you need some time to rest after all you´ve seen). If you have any questions about Majestic America Line there is a separate message board here on cruisecritic.com (under cruise lines A -...). steamboats
