A little off-topic: Black Tie Optional

Recommended Posts

Do you think that this dress is okay for a Black Tie optional 3:00 pm wedding? It is blue silk. So far I have a silvery mother of pearl evening bag. I plan to buy silver strappy shoes and a silver/gray open-weave wrap. So much of what I am reading says "cocktail dresses" for black tie optional. I don't think this is a cocktail dress; however, the neckline does come pretty low, which I hope gives it a little more "umph" as far as making it a bit more than an everyday dress.

DH is wearing a dark charcoal gray (almost black) suit and hopefully a tie with blue in it to match the dress.

I had hoped for Sorrelli jewerly to match, but they don't have too much in silvertone, so I will be looking for something silver and blue sparkly as far as jewelry.

Do you think this will work? If it helps to make it more related to the topic, I believe that we will wear these again for a formal night in December.

I love the look for an afternoon wedding and your bag choice is great.

It has been a while since I attended a wedding and then last week end and the week end before I attended 2 weddings, both during the day. I was quite surprised just how casual the ladies were dressed and few of the men were in suits. To me, the wedding itself just lends to dressing up a bit more. I wonder if that is why the wording of the wedding you are attending of Black Tie optional was used.

Thank you all for the comments. Now I just need to figure out how to get everything into a carry-on because I don't trust the airlines with a checked bag! It will be good practice in the fine art of packing light.

Thanks again.
