Stockholm ferries and boat sightseeing

I am afraid have bad news from Stockholm. Yesterday a strike was started by the Ship Officers Association in Sweden. This strike will to some extent affect cruise passengers arriving in Stockholm, since there will be no ferry traffic from Gamla Stan to Djurgården and very limited sightseeing boat tours. All we can do is hope this conflict will be settled as soon as possible.

Hi north-bound - Nice to see you back on the boards. Hope you enjoyed a wonderful weekend cruising the Swedish Archipelago. Thanks for the heads-up on the strike. That's unfortunate about the Gamla Stan ferry. Do you know if the ferry from Djurgarden to Nybroplan is also affected? Many thanks for your excellent posts.

Hi MightyQuinn, for the ferries from Nybroplan and the Hop On/Hop Off and sightseeing boats there is no definite information. What they say is that it will be very difficult to keep any schedules but that they will do their best. Does not sound like somthing you can rely on.

 

The Archipelago week-end was wonderful! Sunshine all the days and warm enough to wear only shorts and a bikini top.

Maybe you can answer a question for me...As a nautical-nelly type of person, I've been researching RIB fast boat excursions through the Archipelago and am wondering if you can recommend a company?

Any news as to whether the strike is still on as we had planned to use the HOHO boat.

 

Also how often do the boats come, someone posted one per hour, but that does not sound very good. If you get off to look around and then just miss a boat you would have a whole hour to wait for the next boat.

According to their web site, it takes about an hour to do the circuit, but they supposedly go by every 30 minutes.

I have noticed that they have been giving an update on the strike and the status at:

It appears to still be in effect. We had planned to use the HOHO boat to go to Vasa and then Gamla Stan, but will now look at taking the bus there as a backup plan, since we will be there in a little over 3 weeks.

Good news! This strike appears to have come to an end now. So from now on it should be possible to use the ferries and the Hop on/Hop off boats in Stockholm again. And boat sightseeing will also be available.

Is this something that we need to purchase tickets for in advance or can we simply get them onboard? Also, is this walkable from where the cruise ships dock or do we need to get a taxi?

Good news! This strike appears to have come to an end now. So from now on it should be possible to use the ferries and the Hop on/Hop off boats in Stockholm again. And boat sightseeing will also be available.

Still looking to find a company that offers this tour. Stockholmsightseeing offers a RIB archipelago race but it appears that it does not start until 6/23 and I'll be there on 6/21 :( Any other suggestions?

I understand there ia going tp be a bus strike tomorrow. Can we get to places like the Vasa Museum etc. using other public transportation or would we be better off going on a ship excursion?

Depends how eager you are to walk? Subway green line isn´t running either due to renovation.

It is true that a part of the green line is undergoing repair work. But the part that is of most interest to tourists is still running.
