Victoria Ale Trail & Pub Tour

Recommended Posts

:) Hello, just wondering if anyone has participated

in this tour?

Last time I was in Victoria I went to the Gardens

and it was absolutely fantastic:D and highly recommend

them but thought this trip I would do something else.

The Pub Tour looks fun as well:)

Anyone have feedback on it? I am going in September

and it can't get here soon enough!:D

You can do it on your own if you wish, here is something that I have posted a couple of times:

These five pubs are in the downtown area and not more than 3 blocks apart so quite walkable. You will likely want to take a cab or shuttle from the pier to the Empress Hotel then start walking. Hugo’s by the way is a trendy brew pub and not in the English Pub tradition:

Bartholomews in the Executive House 777 Douglas St.

TheSticky Wicket in the Strathconna 919 Douglas St.

Hugo’s Brew Pub in the Magnolia 623 Courtenay

The Old Bailey at 777 Courtenay

There is the Irish Times Pub at 1200 Government …..haven’t been there myself but I understand it a bit touristy.

You could also walk over to the Swans at 506 Pandora, which would be about a 7 block walk from the Sticky Wicket so you might want to cab it.

If you decide to go to the Swans then you may as well carry on by cab to the Vancouver Island Brewing company at 2330 Government St. Then again by cab to Spinnakers at 308 Catherine St.

The cab fares should all be under $10 and a pint of beer will run you about $5 and most of these places will have wine, spirits and soft drinks available for the non beer drinkers.

Should you decide to go by cab, I would start at Spinnakers then the Van. Is. Brewing Co., then Swans then come into the Sticky Wicket and then you walk to the others.

Hi:) thanks for the reply. There are alot of things I enjoy doing

on my own but I thought this might be fun to do with a group.

I sail solo~sometimes I meet other pax who like doing the same

things....but not always.

I know many people don't do the "Ship's Tours" but I am not one

of them.

I do both, on my own AND through the ship.

I took the shuttle into town back in October and ended up

meeting someone I knew from the ship at the Visitors Center.

We went to Butchart Gardens together! So that was just

"by chance" and we had a great day:D. She worked in one

of the shops on board. We took a city bus for 3 bucks to

the Gardens! Talk about a wonderful way to see the city, a fantastic

price and the Gardens themselves were fantastic. We also had

High Tea at the Gardens. It was lovely.

Thanks for the tips on those Pubs:) ......I will definitely keep it

in mind.

The two not to miss are Spinnikers and Swans. While the others are decent pubs, Spinny's and Swan's make world class beer onsite.

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone actually done this "ship" Pub tour with a group from the ship?

We're thinking of doing this ship tour this fall. I think it would be more fun to do with a whole group from the ship instead of just us.

If you have done this ship tour...please share your experience with us.

Pat :)

Why don't you go to the roll call of your cruise and see if there are any takers....or propose you do the one I have outlined, it will save you a lot of money.

Hi Pat:) that is why I posted this thread too:D

We are both going in September~what day are you in

Victoria?

I totally agree with you about doing it with a group.

This type of tour definitely seems like it would be

"group friendly";)

Putterdude, my roll call is so slow:eek: I doubt anyone

would even reply:rolleyes:
