BCApsley Posted June 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2008 I am currently booked for the June 22nd sailing of Mariner. I currently have an oceanview state room (cat H). Right now, the RCCL web site shows that a balcony stateroom guarantee (cat X) is available for $50 per person LESS than what I paid for my cat H stateroom. Should I take a chance and switch, not knowing exactly what balcony stateroom I would actually get? My TA says there is a possibility that I could end up with an obstructed view. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
kc320 Posted June 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 2, 2008 For $50 less...HECK YES!!! I don't think there are any balcony cabins on Mariner that are soooo totally obstructed you wouldn't enjoy the view....not to mention the fresh air & having your own place to watch the ocean go by...better book it quick!!! cb at sea Posted June 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2008 There are NO bad balconies!!!! That's a no-brainer!
FlyingPhotog Posted June 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 2, 2008 Absolutely, do it! But a fair warning - once you have a balcony, you'll always want one. :D
cruisegirl1 Posted June 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 2, 2008 YES – no brainier unless you needed the original cabin close to an elevator for mobility issues. Please tell where you eventually get assigned. M

barbarah33 Posted June 2, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 2, 2008 I say TAKE IT!! It's true that once you sail with your own private verandah you will never want to sail without one again.
BCApsley Posted June 2, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted June 2, 2008 I really appreciate all of the good feedback. I made the switch to a balcony (my first). AND I saved $100. Doesn't get much better than that.

Georgiagolfer Posted June 2, 2008 #12 Share Posted June 2, 2008 You won't regret having a balcony, and you will love the Mariner. Don't care what balcony you get, just let us know where you spend the $100 you saved.:p
cruisePRN Posted June 2, 2008 #13 Share Posted June 2, 2008 I think you did a smart thing to book a balcony and get $100 . I personally don't use the balcony, it's to windy when we're moving and if we're not moving I'm in port. I have taken a balcony the last 3 times because the price is cheaper then an OV with my D+ discount and i like the upper deck location. I guess something is wrong with me for preferring a balcony ;)

FL_Cruiser64 Posted June 2, 2008 #15 Share Posted June 2, 2008 6514. Looks like a good one to me. Thanks again, everyone. Are you serious? While it is the front of the ship it is a D3 nevertheless. Its bigger than a regular balcony. Awesome deal. You went from some 160 sqft with a window to some 204 sqft with a balcony. Well done.

BCApsley Posted June 2, 2008 Author #17 Share Posted June 2, 2008 My previous cabin was 9514. So I am staying in the same area, just three decks lower. Maybe I'll rent a tux with the money I saved.;)

cot427 Posted June 2, 2008 #23 Share Posted June 2, 2008 Of course. Go for it for $50 LESS. There is no such thing as a bad balcony, especially if you compare any to an inside or an oceanview.

wantacruise Posted June 3, 2008 #25 Share Posted June 3, 2008 BCA, We will be on the same sailing as you--also in a balcony. It is worth every penny IMO. Come join our roll call! Our friends booked a balcony guarantee several months ago and since then, the price has dropped so they have been credited back $500 and ended up with a cat E2. They are very happy.
