Tracking down a crewmember

How exciting for you, that is really great news. Mike and I are going to take a year off and go out east next summer. Then in 2010 we are going on a cruise to Alaska. I promised Mike that since I am "dragging" him to Europe, I will go with him to Alaska. I honestly do not want to go, but maybe I can find something I will like about it. Everyone says it is a great cruise, just do not see what is to get excited about.

Do you ever hear from our Lizzie?

Yep...I have been talking to her almost everyday :D She and her man are heading out on vacation tomorrow.

I'm jealous you are going to Alaska! I want to do an Alaskan cruise so badly...but not until we can afford to get a balcony. Now we just cruise in the inside rooms so we can afford to go more often :p And funny you want to go out east, Jeff and I were just talking about taking a few weeks vacation to go out west!

Your so right Mary. They treat you like royalty for 3-12 days and then they throw you off the ship w/o a backward glance. What did we do? Did we not say thank you/please enough? I will work on that, I promise.

Hi Pegs222, I'm still trying to make up my mind if I should go back next year and see him. He even took me to lunch when he came back to port after the cruise and of course says I think about you all the time and will call you. Well, hello I haven't heard from him since. Should I bother to track him down or just let it go???? It was just so nice and I'm just curious as to what would happen if I did see him again. Then I would let it go. What do you guys think? Thanks Mary49

Mary sweetie, I think it was whatever it was, and you should let it go. He took you to lunch? Was it on the ship? If so, it was free so I am not sure that counts. I do not think you should plan a cruise just to see if this guy, if that is what you meant. This was just what it was, a nice moment in time.

Find someone that you can actually see all the time, they are out there you just have to look for them.

To OP ditto to all above.

I used to live on St. Thomas doing civil engineering and nothing to do with tourism except in a roundabout way... but I had friends who did. The stories they would tell about this "catch" or that... a new one every week. They promised them all to see them again and call and it never happened - well very rarely!

I now live on an island that is tourist filled from Late April til late Sept. and the year round bartenders can't wait til summer starts and the girls come for a week or a few days.

Mark it down as a great time and move on.

From a male with two teen girls. You can imagine what I tell them about boys... lol.

Hi Pegs no he actually treated me on land off the ship. That's what made it different. He took me totally by surprise with that. And that's why I'm also surprised that I haven't heard any more from him. Oh well, I guess your right. It was just a nice moment in time. Thanks Mary49

Boy, am I naive. I thought it was a no no for crew to have a little romance with passengers.

IT is a no-no. But that doesn't stop it. Lots of places to meet up. Lots of clandenstine gropping in hidden places. Happens all the time.

It's a risk for the crew member, fer sure. He will lose his job if caught. But hormones will win over reason and logic all the time.

What I find funny is how many of those SYT's (sweet young things) take it seriously....think it has some meaning beyond an interlude or 2 of forbidden fruit.

Believe me, once you are off the ship, you are gone as far as the crew member is concerned. He's already checking out the new bunch of babes coming on.

They have a girl in every port so to speak. My husband and I went on our honeymoon a couple of years after my experience with a bartender I met on the Ecstasy. Per my post above I spent hundreds of dollars to take 3 cruises in 2 months while he was still on this ship. Anyway I finally got the hint that he really wasn't into a relationship and forgot about him. My husband and I went on the Victory for our honeymoon and I couldn't believe it when there he was at the Casino bar. I couldn't believe he was still working on a ship after two years but he recognized me and actually had the nerve to find out what I was doing after he got off work. Well you should have seen the look on his face when I introduced him to my husband. It was worth all the tears that I shed over this jerk. Now I am not saying all of them are like this but on a cruise ship these guys can have their cake and eat it too. Take my advice. Don't go down that road, you'll most likely end up with a broken heart.

Deb, what a story! I hope he was really embarrased. You certainly had the last laugh. Mary49

You might find out for sure that said crewmember is still on the ship before you do that... my son ends his contract next month... says he has met several really nice girls... all guys are not dogs... just because you haven't heard from him doesn't mean he won't contact you some time... but many of the staff members think the same of passengers... that it's just a week away and that the passengers are just saying they would like to hear from the crewmember... it goes both ways...

yes, staff CAN go on deck and socialize any time they are not working... as has been discussed on these boards several times in the past, crew and staff have very different privileges... the entire theatre staff and cruise director's staff are very free in where they can go and when...

One of my very best girlfriends (30 years) got all hung up on a head waiter when she was in her late 20's early 30's. He was employeed by a major Italian cruise line that is still in operation. She centered ALL of her vacations around cruises where he would be - whatever ship he was on. She wrote him letters, he wrote her, they called each other weekly. And, this went on for SEVEN YEARS!!

She decided, with his approval, that the next time he had time off, she would fly to Italy to visit him and meet his family. She was firmly convinced that a wedding was in her future and she was willing to move to Italy. He came from some remote little village somewhere in the Naples area. Well, she paid for the ticket, made all the arrangements, rented a car, drove to his village, went to his house all excited.

Short story; his mother answered the door. She knew NOTHING about my friend arriving. HE wasn't there and wasn't expected home for months. The mother invited her in for refreshments before she returned to the airport. During the conversation (my friend is Italian-American and speaks fluently), this woman introduced my friend to 2 of her grandchildren.....children of the man himself. My friend found out that he was married and had been for 5 years!!!!

It took years for my friend to recover from all that. Four or five years later, she was cruising with her boyfriend (now husband) and - guess who the maitre'd was???? He had the nerve to try and greet her with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Needless to say, she didn't let him get close enough for that!! If she wasn't such a lady, she'd have flattened him then and there.

Young women really need to take those things that might happen on a ship with a grain of salt. Many of the young men they meet are charming, affable, attentive and very convincing.

Don't believe it!!
