dbhome Posted June 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2008 We are looking at sales for last minute cruises this summer. Have found some great prices, but as we would be flying from Florida, we will need one or two nights in Anchorage. With the price of rooms there, it really increases the cost of our trip. Going last minute doesn't help. Any brilliant ideas? I know that Alaska isn't cheap. Maybe we need to save a year and try this idea next summer. But I'm still trying to see if it will work. Budget Queen Posted June 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2008 You can try Priceline?? You will need funds for the transfers as well. And no point going there if you can tour a little either??
renebfl Posted June 12, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2008 We stayed at the super 8 one night and it was very nice and affordable being less than $100. But, then you would need a car if you wanted to go somewhere beside the hotel. The other nights we stay at the Anchorage Grand also affordable with a kitchen you can cook in. bkw67 Posted June 13, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 13, 2008 I just used hotwire last week to book a hotel in Anchorage. Got a hotel listed on Priceline at over 300 for under $150. I was VERY happy!
dbhome Posted June 13, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted June 13, 2008 Thanks everyone. I'm trying really hard to have a realistic budget. These boards are helping me think through where we want to save and where we want to splurge. I'm open to doing priceline.
Glaciers Posted June 13, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 13, 2008 The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) has dormitory rooms available during the summer. All rooms have single-person beds with private bathrooms and start at $50/night. There are also double suites and quad suites. http://WWW.UAA.ALASKA.EDU/CCS/GUESTHOUSING/INDEX.CFM
sunvalley cruisers Posted June 13, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 13, 2008 We booked an anchorage downtown b&b for a very reasonable rate during high season this summer. anchoragedowntownbandb.com She has rooms with 2 beds or 1 king bed with an additional floor mattress for kids if needed. I'll be posting a review after we return.

frac Posted June 15, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 15, 2008 You might look at the Voyager Hotel. We stayed there prior to our curise/tour three years ago. It's clean and basic but you can't beat the location or the management. Check the web for reviews. Also it is right acorss the street from the Captain Cook which was included our cruise tour. We were able to walk across the street and the Captain Cook checked us in at 11:00 am.
