Anchorage on a Budget

Recommended Posts

We are looking at sales for last minute cruises this summer. Have found some great prices, but as we would be flying from Florida, we will need one or two nights in Anchorage. With the price of rooms there, it really increases the cost of our trip. Going last minute doesn't help. Any brilliant ideas? I know that Alaska isn't cheap. Maybe we need to save a year and try this idea next summer. But I'm still trying to see if it will work.

We stayed at the super 8 one night and it was very nice and affordable being less than $100. But, then you would need a car if you wanted to go somewhere beside the hotel. The other nights we stay at the Anchorage Grand also affordable with a kitchen you can cook in.

Thanks everyone. I'm trying really hard to have a realistic budget. These boards are helping me think through where we want to save and where we want to splurge. I'm open to doing priceline.

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) has dormitory rooms available during the summer. All rooms have single-person beds with private bathrooms and start at $50/night. There are also double suites and quad suites.

Thanks for this tip! I need to bookmark it for a later date!

You might look at the Voyager Hotel. We stayed there prior to our curise/tour three years ago. It's clean and basic but you can't beat the location or the management. Check the web for reviews. Also it is right acorss the street from the Captain Cook which was included our cruise tour. We were able to walk across the street and the Captain Cook checked us in at 11:00 am.
