Wow.. Oasis of the Seas

Recommended Posts

See, it's almost like RCI is spreading itself too thin with the Oasis. What's wrong with only doing a few things, but doing those few things very well? Like someone else said -- provide comfortable cabins, good food, good service.

But a zipline and a carousel on my ship? No thanks. RCI has basically put the Mall of America on a ship. Or is it Orlando on a ship?

If CCL came out with this ship I wouldn't go on it then either. Just don't need all that.

It would be nice, HOWEVER, if they could figure out ports that did not need tenders (which I don't know how they will do that in the Eastern Caribbean) because that does not sound fun.

QUOTE]

They ALREADY figured it out. All ports WILL have a pier... there will be NO tendering. St. Thomas, St. maartin, Nassau. Later they will add Jamacia, Cozumel, Labadee. All will have a pier.

To many people - no-where to dock - food for the masses - Very little appeal for me sorry !!

Pictures are great - lets see what it ends up like ( all well and good on paper )

jj....

I'm not sure what you mean. They said they chose the itinerary SO the ship could dock and they said they had new ways to get passengers on and off.

Why is everyone so against the whole project? Fine if you don't want to go that is fine by me, but do we need to constantly knock the whole thing down with a list of complaints?

Honestly, I'm not an RCI hater, but I don't want all that. I want a comfy bed, good food and service and a clean ship. If I wanted to go stay in a mall for a week, I'd go to Disney. No thanks.

I'm sure that a number of people will find this ship very appealing. As was mentioned previously, it may well attract more families than the current classes of ships do, even though the Oasis seems to be an amplification of Freedom/Voyager/Radiance themes...

I'll be interested to see his how long they'll be able to keep the ship full or near full. 5400 folks is a BUNCH!! I know for a fact that RCCL had to offer deep discounts for cabins on the Voyager to fill her while she was sailing from Galveston.

I wish them all the luck in the world!

If you look here...

http://oasisoftheseas.com/renders/exterior/Ship_Profile_w_Name_R.jpg

You can see curved railings and a sweeping staircase in the glass area above the bridge.

So, could this be Windjammer, a 2-deck Spa and Gym, or possibly a while new venue?

What do you guys think?

Also, if you look through other areas of the ship's top glass decks, many details are hidden.

If you look closely here...

http://oasisoftheseas.com/renders/exterior/Ship_Aft_profile_w_Aqua_Theater_R.jpg and http://oasisoftheseas.com/renders/exterior/Exterior_Side_Profile_R.jpg

It looks like there will be some unique rooms at the back of the Viking Crown area.

Thanks for the pics! It seems like above the bridge there is a covered area, more than likely a solarium, I think. As for the Viking Crown, they do seem like balcony staterooms from the rendering.

Im curious about the rates:confused:

In 10-15 years all the new ships will look to similar this, so prepare yourself.

I can remember when people thought Destiny was too big and it had too much going on. Cruises said it wouldnt work, people wouldnt want to be on a ship that big.

  • 220,000 GRT (That's twice as big as the Conquest)
  • 7 neighborhoods (That's too many neighborhoods)
  • 5,400 guests (Way too many guests)
  • 2,000 staterooms
  • 16 decks high (My gosh, will it tip over:eek:)

This is why I leave my neighborhood, to get OUT of the neighborhood, to relax and get away. It's too big and too family oriented for my tastes, but probably great for those wanting this kind of experience. It looks like you're at a huge mall to me:eek:

Now that I think about it, it's really not so bad. We did the land thing for years and I don't want to do that again for about 10 years.

So a huge floating true resort isn't too bad, and the plus side is you actually get to see different places. Instead of just flying then having to move around the same island for a week. I don't know about 5,000+ guests though

I still love Carnival, but I just hope they change the inside. Flip stuff around. But the theater lounge aft, move the casino forward, etc. Change isn't bad.

I am very excited about it; especially the duplexes, the SCUBA lessons, the zip line, the outdoor restaurants, and more. If they can fix the lifeboat guffaw I'd definitely be interested in checking it out; I am just not sure if I would shell out big bucks if they decide to use it as a hotel and keep it anchored somewhere.

Looks like quite an impressive resort, er, cruise ship. I wonder, how many ports can really accommodate a ship this large? I imagine they will market this more as a resort at sea than a traditional cruise experience. Then again, if I want a resort vacation, why cruise? Not sold on this concept yet.

In my opinion I feel that this is exactly the target audience that RCI is going after. The resort vacationers/non cruisers. This ship was not built for veteran cruisers who prefer the experience and feel of a being on a ship. I think the ship was built for the multitude of people who don't cruise and spend thier vacation dollars elsewhere. RCI wants a piece of that pie. I also think they're looking at it from a different standpoint. You ask ..If I want a resort vacation, why cruise? They're trying to say forget about your resort vacation, come cruise and spend your vacation dollars with us.

It's simply an opinion but I thought I would answer your post since since you mentioned resort vacationers. :)

If you toss a ball in a moving car, and assuming you are a decent toser, it will land exactly where you threw it. LOL. Do you think the people jumping off the diving board are going to get left behind as the ship moves forward and land in the ocean? Don't try jumping on a plane moving 500 MPH, you might end up get thrown to the back of the plane, right? NO! Because you and the plane are both moving 500 MPH, this doesn't happen. Now, what could happen, is that the wind could push the water around, but I'm guessing that area is pretty sheltered given that it is at the back of the ship.

I think everyone cruises for different reasons, we cruise for the ports foremost, and then pick a nice ship that goes where we want it to. I'm not knocking the new ship, it looks amazing, if that's what you're into, but for us, the ports suck... really, could the western itinerary get any worse? but what are they going to do? there's not many places that they can cruise to, nor are there that many islands than can handle or want that kind of passenger count. I do hope though that RCI provides some kind of balance for a bit of tranquility with the other areas of the ship yet to be revealed, because right now, it really does look like vegas on water and only a certain percentage find that appealing. I'm sure they'll reveal a few quieter areas to come.

I agree with Host Mach. If I wanted to go to a big city for vacation then I wouldn't go on a cruise. Give me the ocean!:D

I guess you didn't take the time to look at the pictures of the ocean view cabins.

The Oasis does not eliminate any exterior cabins that overlook the ocean...they're all still there. What it does do, is bring the "outside" into what would normally be inside cabins.

They have not eliminated ocean breezes (as someone said)...they're simply making them more available. If you couldn't afford an outside balcony, before your only choice was to have an inside room with no windows or balconies. Now, you can at least have a balcony with fresh air.

The boardwalk balconies will still have a view of the ocean...not as great as an outside, but again, on other ships, these same cabins would have no windows at all, much less an ocean view.

The aqua cabins allow you to catch shows at the amphitheater while sitting on your balcony. Plus you get ocean views...the best of both worlds.

You will still be able to walk around on the upper decks, sit by the pool, etc.

I think the ship looks amazing! I just wish the itinerary was a little more interesting. I'm going on Freedom in November because we're part of a group going, but otherwise I'm bored with Easter/Western. Since I live a mile from the port, I would probably only go if there was a great last minute deal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to book this one.......

I prefer a balcony on a lower deck--I like being closer to the water! I guess I'm just a water person..

Those cabins are still there....no one is going to force you to look at central park or the boardwalk if you don't want to.

Now that I'm looking at it it's pretty much the same thing. I mean you get the best of both. You can have the resort feel yet your not restricted to just being in one place. My mom now wants to do an all-inclusive land resort on an island. But I don't. I like seeing as many places as possible and the cheapest way to do that is to cruise.

I think an ampitheater is a great idea. During the day, it's a pool area. At night, they'll have shows.

If the weather is nice, I would much prefer to enjoy a show outdoors....that's one of the great things about being on a cruise.

They're already dredging at Crown Bay in St. Thomas.

Could this be the new port? (There's already a Royal Caribbean

store in Crown Bay).

I'm with Host Mach and others. While this monster might have the "WOW" factor, it's nothing but a floating resort hotel/amusement park/mall....and it's not for me.

I'm sure those veteran cruisers among us who cruise for the love of sea won't be remotely interested in this thing. It may turn out to be a boon for those with children - and I say "good for them". I hope it sails full every sailing with 5200 passengers, parents and children.... Will leave more peace and quiet on the ship I'm on.

I found it interesting that the one video I watched on Youtube, it was about 2 1/2 minutes long....and not ONCE did it show a glimpse of the ocean.

One thing I will consider is to pick my own cruises more carefully. I'll cruise opposite to this "mall". Can you imagine St. Thomas or St. Maarten with 3/4 ships and this thing? I will try to avoid it at all costs.

I certainly hope Carnival maintains it's sanity and avoids this kind of operation. Or, if they do decide to "blow RCCL out of the water", they will still keep their real ships for people who love to cruise.

Zero appeal? Yet, I see you are going on the Liberty and Freedom, currently the largest ships in the world. Hmmm, interesting thought process you have going there.

All people have a limitation as to how big they will cruise on, these 2 ships carry half of the folks that this new one will hold so this may not appeal to some people. dont knock them for it.

as already stated, its lay out will be nice to see once it gets off paper but for me this ship is way to big no matter what they thought of.

and with the economy the way it is. it seems to be a ship of the rich.i cant even imagine what an inside cabin will go for once bookings are allowed and Im not going to hock my possessions to cruise on it :D
