gottogocruisin Posted June 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2008 HELP! I did whatever you all advised and the DH and I both took out a credit card with Bank of America. We have tried to put a lot on it and now I honestly don't know what it will pay for. Just what can I use these OBC for? Can I use them to pay the tips to the staff? I think I know I can use them at the bars, but HELP, I do need to know what I am in for. We sail the end of September and have never done this before. Thanks in advance. mgmigs Posted June 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2008 on board credit pays the charges on your sea pass, whatever charges you have.
cruisenfever Posted June 30, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2008 If you go to the RCI website and click on Royal Caribbean Visa Credit Card it will give you all the information you need to know as far as what you can use your points for.
VillaHappy Posted June 30, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2008 My monthly statement came and I called the 800 number printed on there to redeem points. I had over 10,000. So I get 2 certificates for $50 each in OBC. She gave me 2 separate confirmation numbers. And I was told that I would be getting them in the mail, I just have to complete them and send them back. sailor05 Posted June 30, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2008 You can prepay your gratuities using it, get cash from the casino using it, buy photo's using it. Basically you can use it the same as if you put cash on your onboard account. Excursions, spa treatments.......
powderqn Posted June 30, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 30, 2008 You need to call in to cash in your points for your OBC certificates.Just because your statement shows points, you can't just "use" them. You need to convert them into usable certificates by calling. It will take a week or two to receive your certificates (they say 4-6 weeks, but I have gotten mine within a week), and then you need to send to RCCL to have them applied to your cruise. gottogocruisin Posted June 30, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted June 30, 2008 I appreciate all your information. I did know I need to redeem them but I wanted to wait until August to do that because of the other incrued expensed. Thanks again. I appreciate all your advice. You all will never know how much you have helped my DH and I with this cruise. It is our 50th anniversary and I want to make it special so I am trying to get whatever I can as a bennie!!!!! Again thanks.

Oh crap, I didn't call for mine until last week. I had just signed up for the card in May... my certs have 3 more days to arrive or else I am out of luck to have the OBC apply to this cruise. Fingers crossed they arrive early this week!

They will expire in 6 months.

gottogocruisin Posted June 30, 2008 Author #11 Share Posted June 30, 2008 If I redeem them in August is that enough time for an end of September cruise? I realize some of the responses were toward the traveler just leaving soon.

I know it may be a bit pricey to expedite, but if you're not going to cruise soon again, it would be better than just letting it expire and your points go to waste. Once you receive the certificates you have to mail them to Wichita Kansas for them to be applied. They do have a 6 month expiration on them. Give them your booking number along with the Certificate numbers. Tell them how you want them applied.........and tell them when you are going on your cruise. Then fill the out, make a copy and send to the address shown. You might want to send them Express Next Day mail. Edit: Sorry, I see that everybody was thinking along the same lines. Call RCCL in Wichita, Ks at 1-888-305-4626 and tell them your situation. Since you have the Certificate numbers they may go ahead and apply the OBC to your account for you. Good Luck!!! :)

I realize some of the responses were toward the traveler just leaving soon. Hello!! Sorry your post was high jacked there for a bit!! When is your VISA card's closing date? If it is early to mid August I think you will have time. I knew the closing date of my VISA (happened to be April 12th and our sail date was May 10) On April 13th I called the toll free number on the back of my card to get my point balance, then called to redeem my points. I happened to receive my certificates on April 19th, even though they told me 10-14 business days . I then called RCCL in Wichita on April 20th and they posted my OBC right then and there and told me to send them the certificates. They are very nice up there in Wichita ;)
laurspag Posted June 30, 2008 #17 Share Posted June 30, 2008 This is interesting to read. I have already received a certificate that was sent in to be applied towards OBC. My TA has confirmed that this is done. I have more points accumulated since then, and i may have enough for another $50.00 OBC soon... If I sail August 9th, how late can I request the next certificate? I have been told by more than one person that you can call in your certificate numbers, then follow up with mailing them in. gagirl7143 Posted June 30, 2008 #18 Share Posted June 30, 2008 You can take the numbers of the certificates and call rccl and have the go ahead and credit them to you and fax the certificates and mail them . You must have them to them in some fashion about a month ahead or you will have to use the procedure I just explained. Any onboard credit you don't use while on board you can request in cash at the end of the cruise or to your credit card.

We are originally from Syracuse!!! :) I would say, depends how important that $50 is to you. You will always have it for next time if you do not use it this time. ;) When is your July closing date? cruiseguy1016 Posted June 30, 2008 #20 Share Posted June 30, 2008 The points don't have to be used for only an OBC. You can also use them to take $ of the cost of the cruise.

Fingers crossed they arrive early this week! If you get them before the cruise, immediately call the number on the back. They can process them that way since your cruise is only a few days away. You'll still have to mail them, but they'll make sure you get the credit. This happened with my friend when we cruised in April. She didn't even mail hers until we got back but she still got the credit. By the way, we're on the same cruise! Have you stopped by the roll call?
waterbugohio Posted June 30, 2008 #22 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Gottogo, I agree with cruiseguy, you can use part of it now and take that amount off the balance due on your cruise. I have not done it yet, but we have had our card since October and I have been reading all the info I can get on it. We have since accumulated $600 of credit. I am calling this week and asking for certificates and sending them in for that much off my balance due. Then after I get the credit, sometime this summer we will pay of the cruise. Then in September (we sail in November) I plan on redeming whatever else we racked up for OBC. I think I will only wait about six weeks ahead (depending on the billing cycle) just to make sure we get them in time. I also understand that you can only do it in increments of $50, so if I know that I am not going to rack up another $5000 on the card (=$50) then I might as well get it taken care of early.
