dyanalee Posted July 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2008 I was wondering if the airlines have relaxed their rules on taking lighters or matches on the plane? We have not flown in several years. Thanks, in advance for any info! :)

MSN-Travelers Posted July 1, 2008 #8 Share Posted July 1, 2008 I was wondering if the airlines have relaxed their rules on taking lighters or matches on the plane? We have not flown in several years. Thanks, in advance for any info! :) Two regular lighters or one book of safety matches in your carry-on. Virtually nothing in checked bags. Here is the curent TSA rules - http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#
Simru12 Posted July 1, 2008 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2008 Two lighters are allowed in carry-on, but that only includes the standard butane lighters (Bic, etc) Zippos (or other liquid fuel lighters) and Torch lighters are still prohibited. I lost a torch lighter because I didn't read the rules close enough. They offered the Mail Drop service to mail it back to myself, but that cost twice as much as the lighter was worth. And none of them can go in checked luggage.

Stevesan Posted July 1, 2008 #11 Share Posted July 1, 2008 Lighters and matches are ok, but we still must remove our shoes. Lighter bombs good, shoe bombs bad. It's a crazy world!!!
ala-kat Posted July 1, 2008 #12 Share Posted July 1, 2008 Airline passengers will be allowed to bring most cigarette lighters on board again starting August 4. that is of last year. Lighters are now allowed, just not the torch type as mentioned earlier.
