wooknook Posted July 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2008 On Royal Carribbean, Independence of the Seas: I have read somewhere that if you buy alcohol in the dutyfree shop on board and pay an extra $9.50 you can take it all to your cabin with you. Is this true?
Rare silentbob007 Posted July 5, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2008 No ... that used to be the case, but that option was gotten rid of a few years ago. Now any purchases will be held until debarkation day.
satxdiver Posted July 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2008 It has been my experience on the RCCL ships as well as the other lines we have sailed that they deliver your alcohol purchases the night before disembarkation. In March our alcohol bought at the duty free shop was put in our stateroom around 5:00 PM or so. As the other poster noted, you cannot buy it and take it to your stateroom immediately. Any alcohol you buy in a port is supposed to be turned over to the ship's crew when you reenter the ship for safe keeping. It will be delivered around the same time to your stateroom as the alcohol you bought onboard. You have to have your baggage that you will check packed and outside your stateroom by 11:00 PM or so on the day before disembarkation. This is the baggage that you would then check at the airport. Since you cannot carry alcohol onboard the aircraft (or most other liquids), it must be put in your checked luggage. Therefore you have to have it in your possession to put in your luggage the night before.
bar_20 Posted July 6, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2008 I couldn't find the link from RCCL but Celebrity allows you to buy liquor before boarding and have it waiting in your cabin. The prices are not cheap however. http://www.celebritycruises.com/shopceleb/giftList.do;jsessionid=0000oafl94xXzgo3PQqz6WMXPMT:12h3rnd1c?pagename=celebration_packages

We ordered a bottle our first night aboard and all we had to do was find some pop and ice to mix it with! Very civilized - I don't know why they ALL don't do this. Would stop all this smuggling aboard.

Bonnie J. Posted July 7, 2008 #8 Share Posted July 7, 2008 On the NCL ships we've been on YOU have to GO GET your alcohol the MORNING you leave the ship! On the Majesty it was in the theater! You tell them your name and they look for it then give it to you. So, you can't pack it in anything but your carry off.
