Lifeboat changes - Pacific Dawn

Recommended Posts

There were changes to Pacific Dawn's lifeboats during the Singapore docking that I have not seen mentioned on here.

See attached photos of PD & Regal Princess.

The for'd pair - port & starboard - lifeboats were replaced with a pair of new larger lifeboats.

The original pair were used as Rescue boats, but nowadays rescue boats are usually smaller, quick release boats - often inflatables.

Pacific Dawn was fitted with a pair of quick release rigid rescue boats that are stowed right aft on the promanade deck - where there were stacks of liferafts before.

They have rescue boat exercises onboard about weekly & if in port the rescue boat can be seen racing around like an overgrown jetski.

Some liferafts are now in racks at the for'd end of the prom. deck.

The aft area near the rescue boats is not available to passengers anymore. These changes no doubt increased lifeboat capacity.

The aft access doors to the prom. deck from inside is also not in use now - nor any access to the dining room from outside prom. deck.

My photos are not the best - somebody may have better ones to show changes.

great comeback karen. love it.:)

Maybe the new life rafts were to cater for the extra passengers she now carries and having to load more people quicker

Rescue boat photos

Nice photo of PD John. Makes me feel like I was there! ;)

Here is a close-up of the rescue boat on Sun Princess, which I think is similar to Pacific Dawn. They also used SP's rescue boat to place navigation markers for the tenders at a couple of our stops. Looks great on the water. (click for bigger)
