4 day versus 7 day?

Can someone tell me about a 4 day cruise. We have only been on a 7 day. Any formal nights and any big differences? We will be on the Destiny Dec. 25 cruise. Is there a search tab on this site??:confused:

I've only done one four night cruise and it was on RCCL. We took it because we had some first timers who weren't sure that they would like cruising. I understand if someone has to do a four night cruise or if you live close to the port and can just hop on the ship. However, I would never do another one. It seems like you just get on the ship and then have to get off.

Not so, or I would not be platinum. 3 day cruise - 1/ 4 day cruise -3/ 5 day cruise 2/ 7 day cruise - 4......total of 10. Enloyed platinum perks on the 10th cruise.

 

If you have never cruised before, the short cruise is good for testing the waters. There are some folks that DO NOT like cruising :eek: The one negative is you may have a younger, party prone population.

 

Now, I can't even imagine taking a 3 or 4 day cruise. It is just too short. :p

We did a family reunion on a 4 day and it was just about right for that type of cruise.

We are doing a 4 day because my Mom and Son have never cruised before and want to check it out. I LOVED a 7 night and I know it will be too short for me. They do still have one formal night and everything else, I hear, is much the same.

I took my brother on a 4-day in January for his birthday. There was one formal night on the second day of our journey. Everything else was about the same as the longer cruises. There were two different shows, plus a comedian one night. Karaoke and the disco were popular, the casino was always full and fun. I enjoyed my cruise but it was definitely too short. I would do it again in a heartbeat if it meant I was able to cruise (vs not being able to cruise or having to wait a year for a longer cruise). Have fun!

suprisetoyou, like others have posted, the 4 day just seems too short. :D Then again, all of my days on cruises seem too short. Anyway, DH and I did a short 3 or 4 night cruise years ago. It was just a quick weekend getaway. We both agreed it was too short. If I remember correctly, there was one formal night and it was more casual than our longer cruises (but that continues to change, as fewer people tend to dress up for formal/cruise elegant nights - probably even more so now (than the last year or two) with all of the additional fees for luggage).

 

cruisegirl1230, last year, we did a 6 night cruise with our parents, as they had never cruised before...and (they) did not want to commit to a 7 night cruise (they wanted a 4 or 5 night)....it was quite an effort just to get them to agree on the 6 nights. Well, to make a long story short, we are sailing again in December and no one even wanted to consider anything shorter than a 7 night cruise.

I agree that the short cruises are really designed for the local market. We have the Elation home ported here, and we use it for a long weekend getaway. Most times we don't even get off the ship because we have been to the ports so many times. It's just our personal party playground.

 

And ditto, a cruise is a cruise and they all count towards your Platinum status. I think the cruise lines used to have that rule, but I checked with RCI and they say the same thing. All cruises count.

Nope, nope. 3 day - any day cruises count. Platinum sucks anyways. It's really not that great. You do get a $20 entry fee for the blackjack/slot tournament.

What do you mean Platinum sucks? Don't you like the free laundry? I sure do. How about the embark and debark process. Last year on the Miracle, we had to do immigration when we went to St Thomas, and we sat in a private lounge and were escorted to the front of the line, while the regular passengers stood in a line with no end in site. What's so bad about that?

All cruises, even the 2 day cruises to nowhere count towards Platinum status.

 

There is no past guest party on the 4 day cruises. The only real difference is that it's 4 days instead of 7. There will be one formal/elegant night, most likely the second night. The captain's party will still take place this night, and the grand gala buffet will also take place. 4 day cruises are more likely to attract a party crowd, but with your sailing on Christmas, I think there will be more families on board.

We love the longer cruises, but saying that we live in Fl so flights are not a issue. It makes for a great little get away and usually doesn't interfere with my vacation time.

Everything is the same as a longer cruise, except the past guest party is on 5 days or longer

That's why I'm doing a B2B on the Inspiration in the fall. I LOVE sea days, and I'll be on the ship 9 days with only 3 ports (I'll only be getting off in Tampa to clear customs and get back on). I did this for two reasons - I wanted to see the new Evolutions of Fun, and I wanted to get to platinum just a little quicker. I'll be platinum after these two!

We recently did a 4 day. It was fun, had one formal night. We would do another 4 day. Yes a 7 day would be better but the prices are almsot doubled on all the ones we've looked at. That's a major factor.

We did one 3 day cruise for our first cruise. That was long enough for the ship that we were on. We have done 6, 7 and 10 day cruises. 10 days are the best, but any time spend on a cruise is good.

Very happy I found this thread. I am taking my 7 year old (by ourselves) on a 4 day in August. It will be his first cruise. I just got off an 8 day in June with my DD's as a graduation gift. My son was still in school at the time. My husband has very little time off work this year because he and his partner just opened a new place a little over a year ago so we as a family could only get 5 day's together 4th of July weekend. We did FL and had a ball but nothing else was planned. To be honest I booked the 4 day as opposed to the 5 day because of the money. I had already spent a lot on vacations this summer. If I got the 5 day I would have had to get an inside cabin, with the 4 day I could get and ocean view.....Does that make sense???

 

I am thinking it is a good test run for my son. He has never been on a boat, never mind a ship. Its also a great excuse to try another cruise line. This will be my first Carnival Crusie the only two other cruises I have taken have been on NCL. We live in NY and I am 15 minutes from the pier, travel and airfare is no problem.

 

As I said I am happy I found this thread because I assumed there would be no formal night on a 4 day cruise......Now I am smiling because I get to dress my lil man up and take him out and get pictures together... something he would hate doing at home.

Will write my experiences when we return on the !st.

I agree... the perks are not "all that"... But I really dont care about the perks... The ones usually offered are nothing I would be excited about..

 

The only perk I need or want is looking out on that balcony on the ocean ;)
