bookingsoon Posted July 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Hi guys! Hope you can clear some things up for me. I was looking at my RCI reservation and I noticed that the fuel supplement is listed under "optional items." Is this charge really optional? waiting4acruise Posted July 14, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2008 No. It is an additional charge.
firefly333 Posted July 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Its optional if they raise it lol. RCL is now at what $10 pp, so it keeps going up. If you find a lower price on your cruise, instead of just getting the difference, you will now get the difference, minus the current fuel surcharge which may be higher than when you booked. satxdiver Posted July 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2008 As the other posters have stated, the fuel charge is not optional. However once you book, they cannot raise it for you. They can raise it for others that book after they announce the increased price. When you book a cruise, you enter into a contract with the cruise line with all the deliverables, costs and penalties defined. We booked on the VOS (RCCL) before they announced any "optional fuel charge". They announced the charge and made us pay it. Many thanks to the FL Attorney General who reminded RCCL about contract law and increasing fees after it was signed. RCCL judiciously decided to give us the money back since it was not in our original contract. :D
