Hmmm.. something's fishy...

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I'm looking at taking a Southern Caribbean cruise on AOS, and found a great price for the second week of October. Now I know October is still Hurricane season, but isn't mid October a fairly slow time for hurricanes in the Southern Caribbean??
But that week is marked down pretty heavily from other weeks in October, so I'm thinking that something may be fishy with that time frame (Oct. 10th)...hmm...
Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I didn't actually look up the prices, but I may now!

Sounds like it isn't fishy, but may be a good deal

We sailed the AOS for $499 and got $199 air last year during that time frame.

It is only partially due to hurricanes. It is more about kids just went back to school, people just finished summer vacation, getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas, etc. Money is tight and people are thinking about other things. September until Thanskgiving is slow throughout the travel industry. Want to go to Hawaii, go that time. Prices are the cheapest they are all year.

There's about a 50/50 chance a named storm will pass through the area you'd be visiting sometime in October. Maybe a little greater.

The area that's considered out of hurricane territory is closer to SA. Aruba, Curacao, Isla Margarita, etc.

This is my 3rd time going in October and "knock on wood ", I have yet have a storm in the way. Are you looking at the Oct 10th sailing ? We got a good price for a CAT #PR and with the money I save I decided to take the wife to Walt Disney World. Again this is a great time to go as the kids are back in school and the rates are great.

I sailed on AOS during the week of October 12, 2003. Weather was absolutely perfect. Not a drop of rain. Very little wind...extremely hot.
I don't know why the price is lower during that week. Could be due to kids in school, approaching the holidays, etc. Have fun!

We were on Celebrity Summit last Oct. 10. The weather was beautiful. The peak for hurricane season isaround Sept. 15 and drops off after that. While you are in hurricane season I think your chances of a great cruise weather-wise are pretty good as are the prices.

Took this from your post --

the wife to Walt Disney World

This is right off the topic, but reading, hearing someone say "the wife", is like nails on a chalkboard to me....it is so... "the car", "the house", "the cat", etc. etc.

You NEVER hear a woman say "the husband"...

Okay finished...have a nice Easter.

THe prices go all the way into the first part of November. It's just the off season between the kids going back to school and the holiday sailings. Got a sceaming deal for a balcony on the Mariner 10-31-2004, almost half of what I paid for Voyager in May of 2001 for the same catagory. Can't wait

I like "the blister" the best...so far...I just made reference to speaking of your partner as ownership...but have had this discussion many, many times regarding -- "the wife" or "my wife"...both ownership statements, but "the" just sends shivers up my spine...see ownership again...it is my spine, but didn't say "the" spine....

Hope you all have a GREAT Easter...I must run and start supper for "the old fart"....hahahaha!!!

Not necessarily because the kids have gone back to school. Our son has a Fall break that entire week!

Awhile back we cruised Carnival's Sensation Eastern itinery in mid October. There was a hurricane traveling in our path. The captain kept us very informed (via frequent announcements) about the storm's heading and strength. The storm ended up turning further north and it didn't give us a bit of trouble. The captain would have adjusted our course accordingly.
After just recently sailing HAL's Zuiderdam in 27 ft seas and over 50mph winds, I know that these huge ships can handle rough weather anyway.
