Lany Posted August 3, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2008 I am platinum and am sharing a cabin with 2 gold members (no pun intended! :) ) on my next cruise. Will they be able to go to the Platinum and above party with me on the cruise because we're in the same cabin or will they be turned away as they are not platinum status yet? mgmigs Posted August 3, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2008 i don't know but i wonder what to expect from the platinum/diamond party as opposed to the regular return party?
texascruzer Posted August 3, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2008 I am also traveling with a friend and I am Platinum and she is Gold. Will she be able to attend the party?
rubrrick Posted August 3, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2008 My guess is that anyone that is Gold would not be invited to a P/D/D+ party. That being said, you will receive an invite that you are asked to bring with you to the party. It will not indicate whether it's for one person or more, as the envelope is the item with names, but not the invite itself. So......it would seem that you need to let your consciousness be your guide. Rick
maria1122 Posted August 3, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2008 It is all a matter of being honest. The invitation will be delivered to your stateroom. Upon entering you will hand your invitation to the Social Hostess. She does not look at the invitation, just takes it from you and welcomes you. We just traveled with our son and chose to pass up the party because he and his wife are gold members.
amickeyfriend Posted August 3, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 3, 2008 The party can be anything from a special luncheon to another cocktail party many sea days you have. When it is a luncheon, the number of places that they have arranged may be the factory for bringing extra people.
seagoer55 Posted August 3, 2008 #7 Share Posted August 3, 2008 Gold members even though they are traveling with you are not invited to the party... it is given as a special thank you to Platinum & above cruisers..No, they probably won't be turned away at the door... but I would feel uncomfortable bringing someone to a party they were not invited to. It's simply a matter of etiquette & doing the right thing...
MattInFLL Posted August 3, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 3, 2008 All I can say is I am platinum, and my partner has only been on 3 RCI cruises, and he gets platinum status for being in the cabin with me, and we are both always invited to the C&A Welcome back party. I would like to think RCI is being progressive and recognizing that we are together, but I thought it was just that everyone in the same cabin got the status of the person with the highest status - to avoid things like this: You get to go to things but you have to go alone? BTW, it's usually a nice event.
maria1122 Posted August 3, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 3, 2008 People in your cabin are not given the status that another person in that cabin holds. Many times they do give the same status to other members in your household.
yogimax Posted August 3, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 3, 2008 The majority of the time it is a cocktail party with far fewer people than the hundreds who attend the general welcome back party. What's nice is when it is a luncheon. As already mentioned, if that is the case bringing extra people could stretch the resources.

Son of a Cruiser Posted August 3, 2008 #12 Share Posted August 3, 2008 I think it is on all ships with 7+ night intineraries
raytownlady Posted August 3, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 3, 2008 There was a Platinum Diamond/D+ party on our recent 4-day cruise on the Majesty. There wasn't a welcome back party for all C&A guests.
phillychick Posted August 4, 2008 #14 Share Posted August 4, 2008 I'm a platinum member (diamond after my next cruise) & the last couple of cruises my cabinmate was not. I took them to the party with no problem. The party is by invitation only, it's not listed on the compass or anywhere else so the only people attending are the platinum+ members. I'm happy that no questions were asked since I really didn't want to attend the party by myself. Barbara from Philly
MrCruzdoggie Posted August 4, 2008 #15 Share Posted August 4, 2008 They should be able to go with you, have a great time. I have the same thing when my girlfriend is on a cruise with me and she goes everytime. Do not feel bad about it. And I never feel uncomfortable taking someone. PH8 Posted August 4, 2008 #16 Share Posted August 4, 2008 I think it is on all ships with 7+ night intineraries All RCCL ships have the P/D parties........no matter how long or short the cruise is..
mgmigs Posted August 4, 2008 #17 Share Posted August 4, 2008 what exactly is the difference between a "welcome back" party and a "plat/diamond" party besides the fact that the "plat/diamond" may be a luncheon? what if it is not a luncheon, what would one expect? Merion_Mom Posted August 4, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 4, 2008 what exactly is the difference between a "welcome back" party and a "plat/diamond" party besides the fact that the "plat/diamond" may be a luncheon? what if it is not a luncheon, what would one expect? The welcome back party is for anyone who has previously cruised Royal Caribbean, thus would include Gold C&A members. The Platinum/Diamond Party is obviously only for Platinum and Diamond members. yogimax Posted August 4, 2008 #19 Share Posted August 4, 2008 what exactly is the difference between a "welcome back" party and a "plat/diamond" party besides the fact that the "plat/diamond" may be a luncheon? what if it is not a luncheon, what would one expect? The basic difference is size. The welcome back party for gold and above will have hundreds of people in attendance. The P/D/D+ will be significantly smaller with greater individual attention and might also include a Q&A with the captain.
MattInFLL Posted August 4, 2008 #20 Share Posted August 4, 2008 I just filed our Majesty and Enchantment cruise info tonight (I keep the compasses etc), and came across the invitations to the P/D parties. Both of our names were on the invite. Maybe it is a "member of the same household" thing rather than cabin thing.
PSCruiser Posted August 4, 2008 #21 Share Posted August 4, 2008 The nature of the "party" varies by ship. Recently (on the Jewel), it was a great brunch that was held in the lounge, with plenty of bloody marys and mimosas flowing - a nice change! webgal318 Posted August 9, 2008 #22 Share Posted August 9, 2008 I am Platinum and my Dad is Gold. I asked the RCCL ambassador that question and he said it would be OK. I walked in, presented my invitation and no questions were asked. QUESTION: I saw your post from 2006 where you inquired about SOS Cabin 2117. How was it? Thanks Sylvia
weinoh Posted August 9, 2008 #23 Share Posted August 9, 2008 Our cruise on Majesty in November will be our first as Platinum. Is this extra event available on shorter 4 day cruises? What other amenities can I look forward to? Thanks. I love this forum.
MattInFLL Posted August 9, 2008 #24 Share Posted August 9, 2008 weinoh, there was an event on our 3 day Majesty - so you should have one, too. One thing is that you now qualify for the Platinum/Diamond check in line at the terminal. You will receive an "amenity" of some sort - a beach bag, a baseball cap, or something like that. This recent cruise we actually got lapel pins and baseball caps. You also get the Platinum cruise booklet, which features slightly better discounts than the gold coupon booklet. Both of our names were on the invite. Maybe it is a "member of the same household" thing rather than cabin thing. Membership status is not given by who the highest level in a cabin. I´ve traveled with a family member several times in the same cabin but being in different C&A levels and not living in the same household. While some perks are shared like i.e. we always got both a robe delivered I can attest that the C&A level never was shared and this was reflected by our SeaPass cards which had the matching level printed on them.
