GRBlizz Posted August 5, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2008 They had the new menu on our July Century sailing. They had the Grand Buffet Brunch on the first sea day (second day of the cruise) and we totally missed it. However, the regular breakfast food is so outstanding, I can't imagine what you would want from a "grand buffet" that you couldn't get every day if you wanted it. They also had a midnight dessert buffet as a surprise extra treat one night late in the cruise. I don't know if this is regular or just because of the long (12-night) cruise. In general, I think you will be delighted with the variety and quality of food.

Rare hcat Posted August 5, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2008 Thanks for posting--how were the portions, presentation & quality? No fair to have the rack of lamb & filet mignon on the same night..
cruisingdelt Posted August 6, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2008 Thanks for posting--how were the portions, presentation & quality? No fair to have the rack of lamb & filet mignon on the same night.. Was on the Century in July. The portions seemed more human sized. I was a good boy and ate all my food plus desert and did not feel like I needed to be wheeled out. Believe me, I was not starved but comfortable. I also thought the breakfast and lunch buffets had a greater variety of foods. Lunch included Asian and stir fry.
giles33 Posted August 6, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 6, 2008 just get one of each ... or maybe two of the filet's and one rack of lamb.

c-legs Posted August 6, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 6, 2008 Hi, Celebrity appears to be rolling out,fleet-wide, a brunch buffet as a replacement to the old grand midnight buffet. Been B2B on Century in June/July and they had started it then. Superb buffet, splendid idea to present this instead of a midnight buffet which was an obvious waste of food, a tremendous drain on the crew having to rush into its preparation a mere 1/2 hour after the dinner 2nd seating was wandering out of the dining room, very few guests having any appetite left for anything, ....The brunch is instead of lunch ,thus represents a smart crew deployment, and guests armed with the knowledge this brunch is available, simply ''modify'' their early morning food intake and actually look forward to / and/ enjoy the great experience and the fantastic food. Good move, ==X==. Makes a lot of sense....and, judging by guests' opinions on board, a ''10 out of 10''. Cheers :)
southerncomfort Posted August 6, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 6, 2008 The Brunch Buffet sounds like a great idea. We will be trying it on Century 11/
KW_cruiser Posted August 6, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 6, 2008 I notice that the menue leaves off all mention of a salad course ?? Can anyone comment on this ?
CathyCruises Posted August 6, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 6, 2008 IMO, the salads were by far the weakest link in the dining experience. After the first day, I took two (small) appetizers and skipped salad. Limp, wilted and flavorless are the best descriptions I can come up with up! Granted may have just been that cruise--and this is just MY opinion!!
KW_cruiser Posted August 6, 2008 #12 Share Posted August 6, 2008 Cathy, has that been since the menu change ? Thanks !
Albert Ross Posted August 6, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 6, 2008 I notice that the menue leaves off all mention of a salad course ?? Can anyone comment on this ? There is no salad course because the OP who originally typed up this menu forgot to write down the options! Yes, there is a salad course every night still. The OP apologised for this after it was posted!
CathyCruises Posted August 6, 2008 #14 Share Posted August 6, 2008 No, that was last October on Century. Lots of complaints, things may have changed. Especially the "always available" Caesar was just awful and not worth eating. Looking forward to my next cruise on Celebrity, so obviously it was not a deal breaker! Gonzo70 Posted August 8, 2008 #16 Share Posted August 8, 2008 They changed the food and the coffee machines on the April 28 2008 Trans Atlantic Cruise I don't believe the coffee machines were changed. My wife brought that up at the Celebrtiy Connections meeting and either the Hotel Director or Guest Relations Manager (forget which one) stated that they have received numerous complaints about the coffee and that this fall Celebrity was doing an overhaul on their coffee fleet wide to upgrade the quality. Hopefully this turns out to be true. Poor coffee was about the only negative experience I had on the TA. I thought the food overall was excellent in all venues (main dining room, buffet area, and Muranos).

HCBI !! Actually I am the OP of the menus, from our trip in July, so as a fellow furry friend I am glad you like the chow. We certainly did. Purrrrrr in return from this side of the pond ! Oh and I am sorry I forgot the salad course - but I could not get excited about different shapes of lettuce!
hylasgirl Posted August 8, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 8, 2008 Just off the July sailing... The food was great. My favorites were the crab cocktail (I could have eaten several!) the seafood puff pastry (really really good!). The French Onion soup the first time they had it was better than the last night (weird, but we all agreed) My husband said all the salads were just so-so... The pineapple mango spring roll was excellent! The creme brulee was nasty (not something that you can make a 1000 of and do justice)The steaks were really pretty decent. The pastas at dinner weren't that great. I ate less pasta on this cruise than any other cruise. The other dishes were better. Our waiters did not know much at all about how things were prepared, or what things were on the menu. You would think they would introduce the whole dining staff on what each item is... how it is prepared... what it is exactly... There were a few potato dishes that I didn't exactly know how they were prepared by the name on the menu, the waiter didn't have a clue. I would ask "Are they mashed potatoes? or fried potatoes? With cheese? He always said mashed...and they never were. It was kind of funny, but with the same menu every 12 days, you would think this wouldn't be a hard thing. The coffee everywhere was the worst. The free coffee was better than the Cova Cafe! I wish Celebrity would go with Seattle's Best like RCCL. You would think they could grasp this concept! Their other line makes it work so well... I have no idea what the problem is. No one could even steam the milk one day... they all were very awkward about it. I don't think anyone could be disappointed with the food. We all thought it was great. Not huge portions, but like one poster said, after the end of the meal, you could walk out of the dining room being well fed, but not miserable. c-legs Posted August 9, 2008 #19 Share Posted August 9, 2008 Good evening, :) After 24 days on Century in June & July, my clothing had really shrunk to sizes never before experienced.... so, the food HAD to be good. Lots of work...but the exercize is good !!! Happy eating !! Cheers ;)
ohiocruisemom56 Posted August 9, 2008 #20 Share Posted August 9, 2008 Wow! Dh and I have been doing RCI for the last few cruises; the kids love it. happycat Bainbridge Is Posted August 13, 2008 #21 Share Posted August 13, 2008 LOL -- it figures it would be cats who are all about the chow (on both sides of the pond)! Of course, this means Albert's feathers are once again fair game ... I read a nice review of the new brunch on a different thread -- really looking forward to seeing (and tasting) first hand the new menu ideas. c-legs, I too am going to have to start hitting the gym to make sure the pants still fit on day 7! Cheers, HCBI
