Are formal nights 1st and last sea days? We want to make reservations for specialty resturant and don't want to miss forml night.

Do you take an excursion in the canal or stay on the ship to watch from different view points?

What is there to see and do in Cartehenga?-already been on the Port of Call board and didn't get much info

Any themed nights like 70's or 80's?

Thanks

I can help you on this question..... Actually since you are doing a partial transit you can do both. The ship will lock up into Gatun Lake through Gatun Locks. If you elect to take a tour you will tender off after the ship arrives in Gatun Lake. There are a variety of tours offered including one that will take you through the Pacific Locks on a smaller vessel. Only passengers who have booked ship's tours are allowed off the ship when it is in Gatun Lake. You of course can stay on the ship and lock back down Gatun Locks and then the ship will dock at the Cristobal pier. There is a nice shopping area there and it is also where the tours will rejoin the ship.

If you stay on the ship during the canal transit, a navigator will be onboard and giving you all the info you will want on the canal's operation and history. There's really no need to spend money on an excursion for this. The benefit of staying on the ship is that about 1/2 of the passengers WILL get off the ship, and you'll have a relatively uncrowded "sea day" in a lovely setting! All of the excursions are quite long and Panama is HOT, HOT, HOT! Wear sunscreen! And do roam about the ship to see this engineering feat from all angles!

Formal nights are the 2nd night and the next to last evening.
