Hotels in San Juan

We are staying one night pre cruise at the Clairon Collection Le Consulate. Been open less that a year and just over $100 a night.

A co-worker from San Juan highly recommended El Convento for our 2 day post cruise stay. We've been to the Sheraton, and for the $$$ would rather stay at El Convento. Rated #1 on tripadvisor consistently and within walking distance of many things we want to do.

I agree. El Convento, even though the cost is a bit high.

We've stayed at both pre-cruise. While the Sheraton was nice enough and convenient to the pier, El Convento beats it hands-down for charm and ambiance. There's a wonderful courtyard for drinks, a free wine bar in the evening. Gorgeous rooms. It gets its name from being converted from a convent. There's a cathedral across the street. Check it out at www.elconvento.com.

Just going for overnight--the Sheraton is okay--with Starwood points it's free

Nothing to write home about--we go to Aquaviva for dinner/lunch anytime we're there and DH knows where Starbucks--we were there Easter wekend--no that's something to deal with--restaurants/shops etc--not open

The Sheraton has a small pool --maybe on the 5th floor

Staying longer go somewhere else--IMHO

snooter: you should check out the puerto rico PORTS of CALL threads. They discuss a lot of hotel options and priceline bid wins etc.

First: if you are on the carib princess...its slated to be at pan american pier NO hotels are in walking distance of this pier and most of the hotels (condado area, isla verde area or OSJ area are about the same price taxi-wise)

I prefer the condado area myself..can walk to quite a few restaurants and the beaches. To get a bus to osj is $.75 cents and very easy.

I use priceline most of the time to get my hotel(highly recommended) Recently i got the La Concha 4star san juan bid for a bid of $116 plus taxes for dec 5-7 2008. Its an "almost" brand new hotel..still some parts in renovations..casino slated to open oct2008.

Hope this can help you decide

While it looks lovely, El Convento is no good for those (like us) who are only coming into San Juan the day before their cruise ... a 2 night minimum stay applies.

After much research, we booked the Sheraton, and chose it for its convenience and amenities (pool etc) over price and ambience. The location of the hotel makes it is easy for us to wander around and explore OSJ at our leisure and then when we check out, to just walk across the road to the cruise terminal.

Cheers

Bob

Although this is what is posted, it still may not be fact. How can the RCCL Adventure of the Seas and the Caribbean Princess be at the same dock at the same time? AOS has been sailing on Sundays at PR for a long time and RCL/Celebrity has a $$ interest in the Pan Am pier. We shall see on the 2nd of November when they both cruise out of San Juan.

Bon Voyage

i did NOT go to the website or a TA..i actually got it from someone who works at princess embarkation. However this does not mean it cant change.

i know there can be more than 1 ship berthed at the PA pier.

I personally would not choose a hotel just because its in walking distance of the ship. You also might wind up paying more on the hotel to save the $10 taxi fare

We are staying at the LaConcha so it doesnt really matter to us, but where do you see what pier you will be at? We are sailing in December on Caribbean Princess. When do you usually know for sure? Thanks

We'll be at the Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino.... bet they have taxi's that will take us to the correct pier!!

We were recomended Courtyard Mariott Isla Verde - although not down town in OSJ, it is adjacent to the airport, and on the beach. That is where we are booked for our post-cruise in November.

We are booked at the Courtyard Marriott - Isla Verde on Sept 6th. I picked it also because of its proximity to the airport and the beach. My DH also likes to gamble so the casino was also a + !

I will let you know upon our return about the hotel:)

We stayed here in April 2007...the beach is very wide and clean. The water isn't very clear though. The pool is warm. The hotel is older, a little paint would help along with a new ventialtion system. The food in teh breakfast buffet was just right. Have a good time,...we have a long ways to go before we are back on the AOS.

I am also booked here for an overnite stay in June 09. Yo me it was so much more expensive than other hotels. I may change yet, still shopping around!

Did you book with Marriott or through priceline?

No, we actually cheated and used Marriott points.... so our $$ outlay is zero...
