Will NCL Offer Compensation for Switched Itinerary?

Exactly what happened to us but as I said we did get the port charges which were like $10 a person removed: I think that was because of so many griping (we were not among them) the cocktail hour was great. On other cruises we have missed ports because of wether and never gotten anything. Once on RCI we got bloody Mary's and rum punch for an hour or so for missing a port, but the only bar you could use was the casino bar..LOL

That's funny!

We had extra bingo and of course the casino got to stay open. There were a few other things going on as well. That's fine though. It was all fun!

I guess I would have to be on a cruise and miss a port due to mechanical problems and see how I felt about that. We were on a Carnival cruise and had to miss Grand Cayman due to a hurricane. (been there since and no offense, but didn't miss much if you asked me. One of my lease favorite islands). It never entered our minds to ask for or even think we would get compensation. We spent extra time in Cozumel which is fine with me as I love Cozumel.

Although personally I don't consider mechanical issues like what is going on with the Pearl the "fault" of the cruise line. I mean my car could break down tomorrow and that doesn't necessarly make it my fault, just something that happened. I think they should do something in that instance. An extra special party... something. I don't think I would be upset though if we werent given an OBC for it.

I do think it is a very severe reaction to say I would never cruise with a cruise line again just because they missed one port and didn't give me a obc because of it. My thoughts about that are.. GOOD. then maybe there will be more people who say that and make the rates lower for those of us who enjoy NCL. God knows they still have no trouble filling up the ships.

Gosh...we have had to miss ports a number of times for weather and once, a mechanical problem, and it never once occurred to me to expect some form of compensation! We were happy that we got our pre-arranged shore excursion charges refunded, but that was it. I began cruising many, many years ago as a child and missing ports is not THAT uncommon an experience. The contract you enter into with your cruise documents even has an out set forth in their wording for: circumstances beyond their control.

I grew up in the Florida motel industry as my parents owned and operated a small oceanfront motel. We would have starved to death if my dad had had to give refunds for rainy days when folks could not go to the beach, etc! The only refunds we gave was when a tropical storm or hurricane was coming and folks were ordered to leave the area. But I hear that nowadays folks are SUING motels for bad weather! (Haven't heard if they are winning these suits, however!)

GROW UP PEOPLE, you are still eating and sleeping on the ship!!! The cruiseline is going to lose revenue having to skip a port because of the loss of excursion revenue, and from my experience, they do offer extra onboard activities to help compensate. Sure it's disappointing to miss a port, but the ship is NOT doing it on purpose!!

I've been to Florida and the Bahamas and trust me Bermuda is better. You can always afford to go to both Fl. and the Bahamas stay in a nice hotel and eat cheaply. It would cost you a lot more to do the same in Bermuda. It is much more upscale than either of the other venues. I know you are disappointed but they could have taken you to Canada. Now that m/b something to complain about. So go and enjoy. Fate sometimes takes us away from places to keep us out of harms way. I'd rather be is sunny Bermuda then in rainy Fl and the Bahamas any day and remember, NCL did not cause the hurricane.

I have been on many cruises with itinerary changes due to weather. On Celebrity we left San Juan early and skipped St Thomas due to a hurricane, Celebrity also took us Western Carribean when we booked Eastern Carribean. Princess skipped our one day in Bermuda also weather related and we stayed out at sea. Princess also kept us at sea one extra day at no additional cost to us. NCL skipped the Samana port in December - rough seas. The most we ever got on any ship was the difference in the port charges and on Celebrity, one hour of free rum punch.

Please go and enjoy. Don't think of what you have lost, think of what you will gain. Bermuda cruises cost more than the itinerery you originally booked so smile. The upgrade fairy just visited you and up sold you a better deal!!!!!!!!

Terry, we never would have thought about asking, griping or anything else regardless of why we missed a port. Now, if we ended up spending 7 days sailing in circles, 20 miles from shore then I might get a bit upset. If we get something, like a party, great: if not we will still enjoy our cruise.

Nita.. I think it is that you and I are in the group of people that are so thrilled to be on a cruise something like that never comes to mind.

I do have to say there was one time on a cruise we stopped at Cozumel. The weather was not the greatest. In fact, there were really bad thunder and lighting storms all around. We had pre-booked an excursion going to a "private island" there off of Cozumel. Because of the weather, we literally felt it was unsafe to go on the excursion, but the cruise company would not refund our excursion cost because when we were saying we didnt want to do it because of our safety, they were still going to go. We found out later it was canceled and we did get our money refunded, but in that instance I did not think it was right of them to withhold a refund. That wasn't on NCL though. That was on Carnival, I think, but might have been RCCL.

I have had 2 previous cruises interuppted bu hurricanes and now, I wouldn't sail during that time period if you paid me. Unfortuantely, the risk is much higher during that time and that is why they lower the fares the way they do. Those who choose to bite are out of luck.

isn't your upcoming celebrity cruise in the caribbean?? that is during hurricane season.

And why did those cruising last week get offered an OBC but not you? MY feeling, you may have been given an opportunity to cancel and they were not or it was too close to sailing time.

That's probably it - passengers on later sailings have ample opportunity to make plans for the revised itinerary, so they are not being inconvenienced as much (less of a shock) so less compensation.

I can definitely see the point of those who feel they should get the $50, and I think NCL should continue that offer, but I also understand that it's no surprise anymore, so the cruise line has a point too.

A couple of my cruises have had to go to different ports due to weather and mechanical reasons. It never occurred to me to complain or ask for OBC or anything else. I knew the cruise contract going in.............they can do what they want. In my opinion they do these things for the safety of the passengers.

Anyone have some cheese to go with that whine?

Norwegian Cruise Line is closely monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Hanna as the safety and security of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance.

Because of the current expected path of Tropical Storm Hanna, forecasted to pass near the islands of the Bahamas, NCL has altered the itinerary of Norwegian Spirit's six-day Bahamas & Florida sailing, departing New York on August 31, 2008. Norwegian Spirit will now call on the island of Bermuda for this sailing.

NCL has also altered the itinerary for Norwegian Sky's four-day Bahamas sailing, departing Miami on September 1, 2008. The ship will sail a Western Caribbean itinerary, with stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Key West, Fla.

NCL will update this information as necessary. We thank our guests for their cooperation and understanding.
