Would like your Magazine Beach opinions

My wife and I are looking for an uncrowded relaxing beach to soak up the sun. I've read a few posts about magazine beach as being a good choice.

I would like to hear your experiences, comments, advice etc about this place.

How much is cab fare? Does the aquarium restaurant offer drinks to people on the beach?

Any help would be appreciated and Happy Cruising!

Magazine beach is quite nice. And yes, you can buy drinks at the Aquarium as they have an outdoor bar. You can actually eat outside - nice to eat and drink in your swimsuit!!! If you go on Sunday they offer a BBQ and the lobster or grilled tuna are awesome!! You can also rent chairs and umbrellas there. Cost: minimal - around 40 EC roundtrip (about $18 US) from St. George's. There are 1 -2 vendors on the beach, and will not bother you if you tell them you are not interested. It's makes for a great day!!!

Had a lovely day at the Aquarium last week. I would highly recommend it! The cab fare was only $10 per person, round trip. My driver wasn't too sure where Magazine Beach was, and first took us to a really secluded area a little bit away from the restaurant. We had him take us to the restaurant instead and it was perfect. No crowds, lovely outdoor eating area right on the sand (or you can sit on the beach).

We were laying on Magazine Beach just four days ago. :p Here's the deal: we shared a taxi with another couple and it cost us $20 for all four of us. The drive took about 20 minutes from the ship. Have the driver drop you at Aquarium Restaurant and walk downhill down the driveway to the beach. You can rent lounge chairs and there is plenty of natural shade. The beach is gorgeous - not crowded at all, and has a slope into the water. The surf was high last week when we were there, so the visibility for snorkeling was not good, but it was great for body-surfing.

The restaurant is available to everyone.

Is it a long or steep walk down the driveway to the beach?

Yes it's a bit steep down to the Aquarium Restaurant at beach level.

..should give you some idea.

It was taken up at the top -in the car park- looking over the view while we were up there.

You can see the restaurant bldgs. down at the bottom of the shot.

I found a few extra shots of the approach to Aquarium

I think you can make out that it's a bit of an incline to get down there

no place for a wheelchair type person unless brakes and handling abilities are good

Might give that a try as the beach we went to last year in Grenada (Grand Anse)

was an absolute nightmare with all the peddlars and beggars etc..

Hi,Katybean....if your taxi driver doesn't know where Aquarium/Magazine Beach is

tell him he needs to drive to the airport and beyond

almost down to the end of the Point Salines peninsula.

You drive alongside the Arrivals/Departures area of the airport and keep going

turn right up a bit of a hill

then swing a sharp left at the top, as I remember it

and keep going along the hi ridge of the peninsula.

In a little while, Aquarium will be on your right

on the Northern edge of the peninsula you'll be travelling along in a Westward(basically) direction.

I just checked it out on Google Earth to refresh my memory

and it's all there!

Beach accesses all along that peninsula can be quite unbelievable

- down the oddest of unpaved tracks, etc.

but when you get There, it's worth the trek!
