RCCL leaving TX?

RCI VOS goes to Europe for Med cruises during the summer months. It will be back in late Nov or so. Evidentally RCI feels they can get more revenue from a Med cruise in the summer than they can from a TX cruise.

I was on the VOS in March and at the captains briefing for return pax. He did say that he had heard that RCI signed a new 5 year contract with the port of Galveston. Not an official response though so I would like to hear something more official.

I seem to remember the news was down on the gulf ports departures board when RCI signed a contract last year with the port of Galveston. They agree to put so many millions into updating the pier they use and will have it for x amount of years.

I am sure we all hope for a year round ship. If so, bye bye Carnival for a while.

Voyager is booked Dec. 2009 - Apr. 2010 out of Galveston. As for Dec. 2010, the schedule is out that far yet?

I just noticed that RCI has its schedule posted through December of 2010 (not sure how long that has been there, but I believe only a few days) and there is no cruise listed from Galveston in December 2010.

Voyager usually returns to Galveston shortly before Christmas, but I don't see that on their schedule for December 2010??????

It's getting curiouser and curiouser.....

The only itineraries availabe through December 2010 are for Oasis. The full post-spring 2010 schedule won't be released until late April/early May 2009.

........that every family has a crazy uncle.

The RCI uncle got control of the schedule and took away our year round ship from Galveston.

We still hope that RCI can get that crazy uncle some help and return to sanity and give Galveston back our year round sailing!!!!!

well said---roflmao. One can HOPE right? I gotta admit that it has cost me ALOT more since I look outside of carribean & that flying cost--WOW. I certainly like driving to the port much better. Wish they would bring back a short cruise ship. Just sailed with Captain Olav--he was captain that took Rhapsody out of Galveston. He sadi Texans have told him that they hate him for doing that. we told him we didn't hold it against him, but could he please bring her BACK!!!!

Y'all know the ship with the Texas around it on the wall between guest relations and the casino? it now has lots and lots and lots of plaques on it from the inaugural sailings to all of the different ports Rhapsody has gone to since she left Texas.:(
