Lynn the Cruiser Posted September 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I am just curious as to how late everyone stays up on a cruise?????? I usually am in bed by midnight, because I'm usually exhausted by then!! (Especially on island days). Just one time, I would like to be up at around 3AM and walk down the promenade to see how many people are awake and what they are doing!! Maybe I will set my alarm on my next cruise just to check it out!:D
wolfcathorse Posted September 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I was up at 4 am in Alaksa to walk around, I wasn't the only one! Very few people but they do play background music, very softly on the ship
shancan911 Posted September 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I don't know about 3am, but I'm often up and out on deck between 5:30 and 6:30. I LOVE to catch sunrise. It's pretty peaceful and quiet. A couple of fellow camera geeks, and others too. Almost all solo. Funny, not too many couples agree about getting up that early:p It's cool. You see alot of the stuff that you know happens, but don't know when. Cleaning of public areas, putting up new decor, etc. I say sleep through 3 and try 6. Happy cruising! Davey Interweb Posted September 11, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2008 Maybe 1-2am on port days, and 3-4am or later on sea days is pretty typical for me. It kinda depends on whether anyone is still playing poker or not, or sometimes I might get into a good conversation with someone I happened to meet. I really dig the solitude that early in the morning.
ckrobyn Posted September 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2008 The delicious sea air usually knocks me out around midnight. I sleep like a baby on cruises and can't wait to get into bed (especially with the super comfy new mattress and bedding) and let the ship rock me off to La La Land :D Having said that, I am an early riser and seldom miss a tropical sunrise. icruiz2 Posted September 11, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2008 Okay, on our previous cruises my DH and I would stay up until the last cocktail was served, usually at the "disco" or "nightclub", depending on ship. Not sure what time that would be?? Areas would be pretty empty. Anyway, since our last cruise, we have had two children. Lucky if I can stay up past 11. Not planning to get up to see the early risers either, since I haven't slept since 2004. :D
Darkwolfe Posted September 11, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I might make it to midnight. I'm one of those "can't sit still" types so I usually run down by then. I'll get one good drink when I'm tired and sleep like a rock for about 5-6 hours. Usually up before the sun and out on the balcony.
Esmerelda Posted September 11, 2008 #8 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I would have to say usually after midnight...maybe 1ish as best I can recall. We then are normally up about 6am. (I've never required a lot of sleep) One of my favorite parts of a cruise is to get up...throw on my robe....order coffee and head to the balcony to see the sun and all its glory. Its the ONLY way we start our day...(we'll...there are a few more ways...but this is a family channel...:D )
aloha of the seas Posted September 11, 2008 #9 Share Posted September 11, 2008 After going to a show or the casino if the show qas early, my wife and I would work our way to the disco, whatever lounge that was, even though we did not dance. We enjoyed sitting therre talking and listening to the music and eating snacks to the wee hours. That would always be followed by a walk around the deck before we hit the sack. Needless to say we were not early risers. Good Sailing, Murf
Lushpuppy Posted September 11, 2008 #10 Share Posted September 11, 2008 we absolutely never ever go to bed before at least 2 but more 3 - 4am! And we still get up at 7 30 latest! The key is tho we must have an afternoon nap. We just love to dance till dawn and have a lot of fun - dont get out at home much so vacation time for us is our only time to party. I love the ship in the wee sma hours!

lady.buttons.of.idaho Posted September 11, 2008 #12 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I work third shift, so it will be interesting to see how (or if) my body adjusts to a new sleep schedule.
Boo Boo Posted September 11, 2008 #13 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I work third shift, so it will be interesting to see how (or if) my body adjusts to a new sleep schedule. We are from the UK and generally don't fight our body clocks (we go to bed early, get out early): so I wont say how early we go to bed... :o (would probably be thrown off this forum!). We do get up early, though, which is nice. :) Boo
Elizanessie Posted September 11, 2008 #14 Share Posted September 11, 2008 Bed around 3am up again around 6/6.30am...for my bacon :D Hey its only for a week ...I can sleep on the flights back to UK :D
whyrlygig Posted September 11, 2008 #15 Share Posted September 11, 2008 We tend to keep our usual schedule. In the cabin by 10 or 11 and asleep soon after. Then I am up around 6 and DH around 7. The only real change is that we tend to add an afternoon nap on some days. We have been up and for a walk at 3am before and really enjoyed having the ship to ourselves. eem0924 Posted September 11, 2008 #16 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I'm all about the afternoon nap. It's like a decadent luxury that's in tune with the whole cruise experience. I get tired around 11'ish, but if I work through that little lull I'm usually good until 2 or so. There's still so much going on it's easy to find something fun to do. I like going up "poolside" for a nighttime dip in the hot tub. I also just love spending time on deck enjoying the sea breezes after dark. AND the casino is always jumping. WOW, I wish I were on board NOW
DonnaK Posted September 11, 2008 #17 Share Posted September 11, 2008 We usually go to bed around 11pm or midnight. We are early risers, especially on port days, so we can't stay up too late and then be up early to get off the ship for excursions. We usually opt for early traditional dining, then go to the nightly show. Afterwards, we hang out around the ship for another hour or so, checking out the event in the Promenade, before calling it a night. We aren't gamblers or drinkers, nor disco-people. cb at sea Posted September 11, 2008 #18 Share Posted September 11, 2008 We don't stay up late, either, and I have no desire to see who is still up! I like to get up by 8am, have breakfast and get the day started! In the evening, we do our "drinking" before dinner, eat (late seating), and then, I'm pretty much done! Sugar*Magnolia Posted September 11, 2008 #19 Share Posted September 11, 2008 This thread just made me need to cruise TODAY! lol Nooooooo idea why this thread di that to me lol. NAP is the key....we dont stay up too late anymore but we have kids. One has the 1pm curfew, the other does not have a curfew but they mistake her for a young teen. So, needless to say we have NO choice but to be awake until our kids are tucked in. If I dont nap I fall away and it becomes DHs total responsibility to make sure they are in before curfew (DD ends up hanging in the hallway outside our cabin talking w/ friends). After reading this thread........:o I admit I MISS seeing 3am and some of the funny and peculiar antics to see! Okay, I plan on staying awake late (errrr, early!!!) ONE night out of our 12 nights.....I will take a very long nap that day!! lol I need some good cruise ship stories lol
honeywell Posted September 11, 2008 #20 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I cruise with my two young children and my sister, so staying up late isn't really something I do on a cruise. No husband to dance with, etc. I have closed the casino a time or two, while kids sleep and sister watches them, but that is boring being by myself. Usually 11:00 and I'm out. indiaksue Posted September 11, 2008 #21 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I am soooooo not a night person. I usually go to bed at 10 and get up at 5:30. On a cruise I can manage 11:00 maybe 12:00 but DH loves to drink and stay up late till around 1:00 or 2. I can't do it so that is one reason we choose cruising. We don't have to leave the disco or bar together to drive home, I can just say goodnight and go off to bed. :)
tommccabe Posted September 11, 2008 #22 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I really love standing on the top deck of the ship at 2-3AM and just looking out across the ocean and empty sky. One of my favorite moments during a cruise.
karisma99 Posted September 11, 2008 #23 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I usually stay up until 2 or 3 am, at the disco, casino or one of the jumping lounges. Then hit the cafe or sorrentos for some drunk munchies and pass out in the cabin. I wake up early to beat the crowds at the Windjammer for breakfast (7am), and then find a great spot in the solarium and nap in one of their very comfy lounge chairs until my first scheduled activity. I also agree with the other posters that a mid afternoon nap is essential. :) I just make sure to be up in time for trivia games! :) Now, my wedding/honeymoon cruise was a whole other story... we went to be early every night... hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
MarinerBride Posted September 11, 2008 #24 Share Posted September 11, 2008 We were so tired on our last cruise that I'm sure we went to bed by 11 each night maybe. Hopefully this time we can spend some later nights around the ship or get up to see the sunrise. :)
bplazo Posted September 11, 2008 #25 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I am not a night person at all either. I am usually in the cabin around 10:00 or 11:00. I like to get up early and see the sunrise.
