PINEVIEW01 Posted September 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2008 Is it open yet? I went out of the old one. Would much rather go out of Houston!
CruiserRose Posted September 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2008 how much is parking going to be? any ideas? anyone know how much it was at gal? not to be funny but hopeful that parking was was not pre-pay for all those poor folks that left thier cars in Gal..... IMHO, its too much in MIA. 20/day. man it kills ya. We are usually coming for Jupiter, FL and just a little to far for hired service, still cheaper for drive/park? but ya pay for the convience of being right there when you get off the ship, no shuttles, etc. atr

With a planned operationa l date in the Fall 2008, the new Bayport Cruise Terminal will offer a one-of-a-kind experience from an exciting home port city for cruise travelers looking for efficient and world-class services before and after their cruise. It wasnt open before, but apparantly they are going to find a way to open it by tomorrow. Both ships coming in are first going to New Orleans to go thru Customs, which Im guessing is no accident, because otherwise the Ecstasy could have come staight to Houston. Then everyone who wanted to, reboarded to travel to Houston. After folks get home from coming in tomorrow, Im sure there will be posts about how the new terminal is. From what I've read it looks like a lovely terminal and I would like to cruise out of it a couple of times, but I love Galveston and I can't wait until that terminal opens again. Bayport has its advantages though, it's very close to Kehmah which is a really neat place to hang out pre/post cruise (though I saw video's of some pretty heavy damage there too), the Space center is very close. Parking at Galveston, EZCruise specifically, was $50 for the week if you paid on line.
ChrissyM_Cruiser Posted September 17, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2008 About how far of a drive is it from Hobby and IAH? Flying in, getting to the Galveston port always seemed kind of expensive.
munchkin4 Posted September 17, 2008 #8 Share Posted September 17, 2008 It is about a 30 minute drive (22 miles) from Hobby according to Rand McNally. We are taking a taxi--about $35 or so according to our best guestimate.
EAZYLIVING Posted September 17, 2008 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2008 Looks nice. I checked its website and it looks a thousand times better than the Galveston cruise port. Why did Houston spend 81 million and not have any cruises? Please Houston get more ships including RCL and Princess. IMHO the Galveston port sucks. mhww Posted September 17, 2008 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2008 New info added to the POH website about the Carnival Cruises. http://www.portofhouston.com/cruiseinfo/cruiseinfo.html
jgh1204 Posted September 17, 2008 Author #11 Share Posted September 17, 2008 Parking will be $10 a day, cash for the first week. CC there after. I think Houston is trying to bring in other Cruise lines. If you build it, they will come.....
spleenstomper Posted September 17, 2008 #12 Share Posted September 17, 2008 I'm an equal-distance drive from both Houston and New Orleans, so I would LOVE more choice! Houston, bring more ships and itineraries!
