Sapper 1, my family and I enjoyed meeting you on our trip to the Southern Caribbean on the Maasdam in April--we'll be thinking of you and hoping the storm passes you by. Sending good thoughts to all in the path of the storm and on the Maasdam--

Maybe a good time to go to Nuuk

Ha-ha-ha! I don't think so! It was coming out of Nuuk that the Rotterdam ran into that little storm with the 45' seas. The one that went on for 38 hours like that.

Talk about Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!

Just up your alley! Hey, what's a little wave action - makes you realize you're on a ship at sea and not in your bathtub

Ruth, I know you like to rock and roll on the ships. I had some trouble enduring the 16 foot waves on the Noordam from NY to Florida. 45 ft. Yikes.

Seeing as Bar Harbor seems to be close to a bullseye from what I have heard on local weather reports, that port obviously has to be skipped.

I've heard Maadsam is heading to Halifax. She can travel faster than Kyle is moving.

All that matters is they all stay safe and she can ride the storm out in Halifax. If it doesn't blow and rain too badly there, the pax could have a great time there. If it's real hurricane there, no one will be going out for lobster dinners or an evening at the Casino!

Maasdam has a GREAT Captain and crew and they will do all necessary.

Should be a bit of a ride. ;)

I just checked out the port of Halifax website and it now has the Maasdam listed as coming in today, the 28th at 5:30pm and leaving at 5pm Monday. I guess we're welcoming the crew and passengers of the Maasdam for an overnighter in Halifax :).

As of now, we only have a wind warning posted for us here in Halifax county, with gusts up to 90km/h this evening but Saint John still seems to be in the direct path of Kyle.....hope everyone there stays safe.

Knowing both ports and having my druthers, I would pick Halifax over Bar Harbor any day. It is more sheltered and I would sooner be tied than anchored. Anchors can drag in a storm. They can tie the Maasdam down like a giant cat's cradle in Halifax.:D

Checking the port schedule, I see the QM2 has switched from Sept 30th to Oct 1st for Saint John.

I doubt there was any contest choosing between the two. It makes no sense at all to go to Bar Harbor.

The storm is aiming for Bar Harbor!!!!! Maasdam is far safer in Halifax and guests will be more comfortable.

Halifax has huge, sturdy, excellent docks with excellent terminal building.

I believe if you reread my post you will see that I said Halifax would be a better port. I did not say the cruise line was having a toss-up. I said I would be happier in Halifax, given my personal choice.

Yes, of course, Halifax is a better port.

Bar Harbor would never have been a consideration.

The most recent weather I heard (20 minutes ago) is Kyle should hit Bar Harbor.

I wish them well and hope they weather the storm safely.
